Lipo 'jacket'

Has anyone messed around with using some sort of ';jacket'; to keep batteries warm in flight. I';ve been pre-warming my lipos before I go out but even then the warm dissipates rather quickly for it to be of any use.

So I decided to actually go ahead a make my own ';jacket'; to keep my lipos warm during flight and I must say they do work! Used neoprene from an old laptop case and it';s functional albeit with very poor shoddy stiching (due to me not knowing what I';m doing)  but I';m still chuffed

If they';re cooling down too much you just ain';t flying hard enough - mine don';t come down cold ;-)

+1 to that.

I was out yesterday morning, it was cold, not bitterly, but cold enough. The lipo I kept in a padded rucksack containing a LiPo charge bag. They arrived on site as warm as they were at home.  The combination kept the batteries at a decent ambient temperature while I flew each one in turn. An I think that is the important part, that they are not chilled before being flown, or the chemistry will be affected.

But this is the significant bit - not one of the batteries came down cold after flight. Each was warm to touch, not uncomfortably, but at least as warm as ever during summer.  And that was with moderate FPV flying, lots of hover, moderate travelling speed, nothing excessive. So no high C being pulled from the LiPo.

Want to master nose in flying before I become a lot more adventurous with my flying! And no decent large fields in London  :-/

kilby

My battery';s live in my hoodie pocket (which is under my fleece)

If I don';t do that they the flight time can become very short
