9g MG Servo Recommendation needed

Hi all

I have finished my Tricopter and awaiting calmer weather for its maiden flight but before I do I have issues with the Tail Servo

Although it works and moves in the correct direction the one I used is quite slow and not so good at returning to centre so obviously will be needing something a bit better before I can fly

At the moment I am using one of the Tower 9g MG Servos so will need something the same size but nice and powerful and quick

Anyone got any recommendations

Thanks

Paul

If you can get it to fit an MG16R is much stronger, I';ve messed about trying different servos for a long time and always come back to that one.  You can get one the same from HK, just as good!!!

IIRC you';re using APM/Pix..? If so I';d avoid using a digital servo. Because the APM will only allow 50hz refresh rate on the servo channel I found that digi servos ran rough. I use and recommend the Hitec HS65MG.

Most other FCs will allow you to up the refresh rate on the servo channel to 250hz so you can take advantage of a digi servo. In this case I';d recommend the Savox SH-0257MG.

Thanks for the replies

Yes I am using a Pixhawk and was wondering if I could use a digital servo as I couldn';t find any setting for it.

Thanks again

Oh I see, I wasn';t aware of the situation with Pixhawk fc';s - I still use kk2.1x  fc';s for my tricopters, might try a Naze32 with the next one.
In that case you can';t beat Hitec or Futaba analogue servos but I have used a HK 9g (HXT900) in  a small tricopter and found it ok.

Hi, I use digital servo';s on my traditional helicopters with APM 2.6 and Pixhawk controllers without any problems,
ArduPilot reccomend using the digital rather than the analogue servos.

It';s different with tricopter as there';s much more moving mass in the yaw assembly than a heli tail. On a heli you';re just altering the pitch of the tail rotor blades whereas on a tri you';re waving the yaw assembly, motor and prop about. Any lumpyness is hugely ampified in the movement. Plus there';s no advantage using a digi if you can';t up the RR.

Hi Revs,
Thanks for the explanation I learn something every day.  ~~

My pleasure

I think the APM recommendation of a digi servo stems from earlier version ofthe FW which allowed for servo RR adjustments. This was dropped before v3.x
