Servo/JST pins

As I';m getting more into this hobby, I thought I';d have a go at making my own length servo and JST power leads (instead of just cutting wires in half and soldering)

BUT, Are the pins on a servo connector the same type as on JST battery leads?

On the servo, the pin is held in by a tab on the black connector block but on a JST it is held in by a small raised tab.

Just wondering if I got this, whether the pins could be used on both servo and JST leads.

I make a lot of customisations to my leads.  If you';re doing this to save money, you won';t.  In the long run it will only save money if you buy cable and crimps in bulk, say 100s of crimps and tens of meters of cable.  That';s a lot of crimping. :)

The crimps are not the same.  I took a couple of pics.

Servo crimps

JST RCY crimps

The crimper you linked should also be able to crimp JST connectors.  If you want one that will do it google for SN-28B crimper.

The cable stripper looks like a you-get-what-you-pay-for jobby.  But for £3 worth a go.

I have this one an absolutely love it

Strips between AWG 16 and 30 and you can do a servo lead in one go.

They cost a few quid so not for the casual user, but I ordered a set of crimps from a Japanese seller on Amazon (think you can get them on ebay as well). Engineer PA-09. They do just about every JST/SERVO/Micro/JST you can think of. Amazing quality and totally worth every penny if you';re going to do a lot of crimping.
Probably my best investment for multi build projects. Get all the servo pins from Banggood nice and cheap, jobs a good un.
With regards to wire strippers,  over the years I';ve purchased dozens, cheap as chips right through to mega-bucks Knipex jobbies. Have to say they';re all in the graveyard toolkit and I always return to a nice sharp sccalpel.

I have those crimpers, too.  The Engineer stuff is great in general.

Have you used it on any of the really tiny ones yet?  Like PicoBlades or JST-SH?

I have those wire strippers and they work well, as for crimpers I use HobbyKing ones, there good.
Those connectors are not the same!   It's still nice to have custom made to length leads in any case, makes for a tidy installation.

Thanks everyone, espcially Quadfather for the pics.  I';m not making these to save  money, just to tidy up my wiring.  Pity the connectors are different.

TBH, you';ll probably be fine crimping servo and JST with those.  The crimping action is the same for both receptacles, as in the end holds the insulation and the middle bit the wire core.  If you do get that starter set PM me your address and I';ll bung you a few JST crimps in the post for testing.
