Had another negative encounter, it's been a few years since the last one, just an uneducated ******, going on about drones being illegal yada yada yada.    :-/
Still that didn't spoil my flying time, had an absolute blast  ~~

Just had a thought, even with all the crashing I've done, I haven't bought any replacement props in over a year ~~

Just a quick video taken this moring of my Radjet, just general flying and some passes towards the end

That looks (and sounds) very fast. Have you done a speed test on it?

I used an app called RC Speedo that uses the Doppler effect and got a flat average of 79mph and a top speed from a dive of 93mph, by all accounts the software is quite accurate but it';s the first time I have used it.

That sounds useful - i wonder if it would work on quadcopters. Don';t see why not.

Holy smokes, i am crosseyed after watching that zip around so fast.  :wack0

Cracking video used to have a similar plane but cant remember what it was called prob not as fast as that though  ~~ I gave it to simhatus who is a member on here  ~~

It';s fairly easy to build a flying wing type aircraft that can go pretty fast without spending lots on powerful motors etc - they tend to be quite aerodynamic without the fuselage and other ';useless'; bits.

I had a lot of fun with EPP flying wings - close to indestructible as well, unless you nose in at full speed. The biggest problem is that they can be quite easy to fly - you quickly get to the point where you run out of stuff to do. If i got back into flying wings I';d have to look at getting FPV working to make things more exciting.

Still - a very good way to learn to fly rc.

I have a rough plan for a wing that I';ll probably use if the Radjet airframe doesn';t survive another crash. I also have a few sheets of Depron hanging around from previous builds that needs using up.

You can';t really see in the video but it has plenty of tape holding it together with loads of glue and carbon strips holding the nose on.

I like that Radjet -very nice
I also did a Google on EPP flying wings and see that HK has quite a few ... I must explore that further  ;)

The radjet is made of EPS or elapor or something similar I believe. It will hold a complex shape better than EPP, looks nicer, and works much better on scale and semi scale models.

EPP is the stuff they put in car bumpers. When used properly you can jump up and down on it and it springs back. Getting your carbon fibre wing spar in the right place to prevent your wing folding up at speed becomes quite important on anything but the lightest models but if you brace it properly it works very well. If you cover it in tape or transparent photo laminating film it';s even stronger.

The raven flying wing from http://www.flyingwings.co.uk/ is a good cheap basic wing that will perform very well in small to medium sized parks. The wing in the video i posted earlier is a raven flying wing painted and covered in transparent film.

There are a few build pictures in this old rcgroups thread;

Thanks for that ... some of those things in the link look very similar to the old control line combat models we used to build back in the 60s - names like ';Warlord'; and ';September Warrior'; - very evocative ...
Balsa frame - covered in silk and doped - strong as hell ... the silk never ripped so if you crashed you came home with a silk bag full of crushed balsa bits  ::)
Happy days .....
