I have received my new DJI replacement arms today from Martin at Build Your Own Drone, I have to say a big thank you to martin as I chose un-insured delivery on them and they went missing, When Martin found out he offered to resend the order at his cost which was very good, so thank you Martin your a star,

As soon as I unpacked them I could see the quality was better they are a little beefier if that's the right word were the rctimer ones broke, and I thought the rctimer ones were white until I got of the the original DJI's

The main thing is the holes do line up which is good news but for some reason the screws dont fit the rctimer ones are 3mm and the DJI ones seem to be 2.5mm, I have some 2.5mm button head screws on order and they should be here tomorrow, so I will be able to fit the arms and test fly it,

I think the arms are stronger they certainly look better quality and have a little extra meat were its needed but time will tell and Im sure I will soon crash it and report back  :rolleyes:

The only thing you need to do if you going to get some original arms is make sure you get some suitable 2.5mm button head screws and your good to go,
Here's a few pics of the new arm and the old broken one when I get a new rctimer arm I will upload some more pics of a side by side comparison  ~~

Hi Gaz,

I have fired some screws off in the mail for you today, some "official" DJI ones, I hope that they will be with you in the morning and that they will fit, the arms are looking very thin in the pictures, the DJI ones are not indestructible by any means, however i think they will put up with a lot more than the others you have there!

I guess you will be our

Wow again thank you although I have ordered some screws from model fixings, It cant hurt to have some spares though, seeing as I might bend a few  :rolleyes:

That is one weird video how on earth did you find that  :whistling:

The broken rctimer arm in the pictures doesn't look white at all  :o

Gaza07

I have received some of the right size screws from Martin today at Build Your Own Drone so I owe you a big drink if we ever meet Martin thanks again  ~~

I have rebuilt the qiad and taken some pictures, I also found the broken end off the Rctimer arm and have taken more pictures so you can make your own minds up which you think is better,

I think the Dji arms look stronger as there is more plastic where the Rctimer ones failed they are exactly the same physical size and the holes match perfectly,
But the Dji just seems to be of better quality  ~~

Heres the pics make your mind up for your self

I have managed to test fly the quad since rebuilding and it flys ok but with the gopro on board it needs a bit of tweeking, but the video came out ok, I went quite high a couple of times and let it fall quickly and caught it on the throttle, but the last time I went even higher and let it fall again but this time even though I hit full throttle it landed, I think the battery was a bit tired as it had worked fine before there was no damage not even a prop  ~~

heres a couple of pics of the frame with camera and the video from the camera

I have to agree the rctimer ones don't look to be as well made as the original dji ones more so around the area your have broken  ~~

I've started putting my Rctimer DJI clone frame together with some old parts i had after a crash;

Still got a way to go.

Looking good Chris Im glad to see you have the base plate tabs front and rear rather than on the sides makes for a useful camera mount  ~~

I have now had a chance to test fly the rm450 with a the Gpro stuck with velcro instead of the proper mount and the waterproof case,
You can clearly see in the video below the arms are suffering from quite bad vibrations, I think caused by bent prop adapters, from the previous crash.

here's a couple of pictures to show how the camera was mounted prior to the flight   ~~

Just needs the props balancing now (and some decent weather);

I look forward to your thought on the flight test its not the lightest frame but good and strong  ~~

First (stable) test flight over my bed;

That's after balancing my props and calibrating my escs, which i think made the difference.

I need the wind to drop now so i can take it out with my laptop for some PID tuning.

I've just received my frame today. Everything looks good and all for the same price as my flyduino centre plates on my current quad. I was going to keep this as a spare frame but I think I'll pick up another controller and build another quad.

RC timer frame first test flight outdoors.

Got it outside for the first proper test flight. It is still a little wobbly and probably needs more PID tuning.

Not yet, I don't know whether to stick with multiwii or try something else. I would like tri-axis gryos, accelerometer, baro and magnetometer on board with the possibility of expansion to GPS. Some of the stuff RCTimer have looks interesting with multiple serial ports for expansion. I'm fancying trying this one
http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=goods_details.dwt&goodsid=765&productname=
It is relatively cheap too at about £40

That's a good choice Gerry because it has the new mpu6050 gyro / acc and the newer ms5611 baro,
and will run multi wii or megapirate with ports for gps and telemtry, and the fact that I have one on order and hope it will be here very soon  ~~

Nice one it looks like a lot of controller for not much cash you can also connect the cheap little rctimer gps directy to it, I think they are about 16 quid  ~~

Gerry

I'm shocked! I ordered on Friday August 31st and it arrived yesterday Fri 7th sept. One week to the day and I didn't get stung for duty this time  ~~
So I now have my new controller, GPS module and a I2C interface board to use with my current Drotek board.
Next step is to decide on Motors and ESC's. Any suggestions? ESC I was thinking of trying Hobbykings http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__28412__Turnigy_AE_30A_Brushless_ESC_UK_Warehouse_.html
Motors I'm not to certain of, possibly Keda 20-26 again or can anyone recommend good alternatives? I'm trying to see how low I can keep the price and still get good performance from this.
