I have been looking at the hex I';ve just built and I was thinking that perhaps the arms connected only by cyano to one ply plate was a bit dodgy now I';ve added all the strengthening braces between the arms.....

So I thought I';d remove the top layer and add another plate above the lower one and grip the arms in a 10mm sandwich then add the top layer back above the escs and power board.

So I made a nice extra plate with a hole on the middle for the esc wiring to come up through....

The plan was then to drill through the plates and the arms and bolt through ...... can you see it yet  ... :embarrassed :embarrassed

So I get the trusty drill and drill through the first set of plates and one arm .... and then another ...... and then another .......

can you see it yet ......... :embarrassed :embarrassed

at that point I realised ....

the esc wires all come through the arms to the centre  :blink :blink :blink :blink

I';m drilling through my own carefully threaded wires

I sat down in complete shock and thought - WHAT A TOTAL PRAT  .... in fact as number one ... cast iron .....KNOB

So - what damage had I done ...... well I';ve been so VERY lucky...

The space inside the tube is 8mm and my drill was only 3mm - and I only ever drill at very slow speed - so in all 3 cases the drill had just pushed the wires aside and NO damage .....

Such a ****** - but it turns out a lucky ****** ....

See the other threadS for pics of the upgrade and the LEDs as it';s all finished and rebuilt again ...

Sounds like a near miss to me (or should that be a near hit, can never work that one out).

I haven';t said what happened to my second attempt at making my own multiwii flight controller yet. Everything worked except the very last solder connection i made, which i didn';t bother checking before i sealed it up in epoxy  :embarrassed.
