Naze32 case - Mk5

So I';ve spent the weekend (and more) first tweaking existing case designs then starting again from scratch ... I now present the Mk 5.

[attach=1]

I';m not 100% happy with how my printer manages the overhang for the RX/GPS/etc connector but it is at least functional.

I';ve attached the stl and a sketchup original ... ( they have a support block in for the aforementioned overhang but it didn';t work well for me :rolleyes: and should probably be removed from the file but I leave that as an exercise for the user )

I';ve made a slight change to both parts of the case which helps to seat the two parts together better and also prevents a little warpage I was getting when printing in ABS.  I';ve got some more changes made to the design but haven';t printed it yet - I wanted to add recesses for M3 Nuts but this has meant I';ve had to add 3mm to the height of the bottom part - I';m going with an overhanging pin protector for the first iteration of this ... It might just be better to have a 4.5mm thick wall instead.

Barney it looking good mate will be very interested to see the final thing once you get it all sorted :smiley:

Hi @barneyg - thats a cracking looking design there mate. I';ll try and get one printed off tonight to see how it comes out on the Kolobus (Wanhao) Duplicator 2 and MakerWare (I';ve gone for the lazy mans approach).

In terms of the design - I can';t see it from here - would be useful to have a hole to allow the Naze32';s LEDs to bee seen through.  I see you';ve made a hole for the TX/RX pins (telemetry/OSD) to be accessed.  Thats great.

Isn';t support material rather in the hands of the slicer to work out?  I';ve not had too much trouble with MakerWare. I did start off with another app (can';t recall right now) that used slicr3 iirc.  That was okay, had some quaint results at times. Its a right old game, this 3D lark. ::)

Yeah there is a hole for the LED';s in the top.  I think I';ve got enough filament just now to test print the mk5b bottom which has some recesses in for nuts at the expense of making it thicker - probably better for most applications.

I';ve been trying loads of different slicers.  Cura wasn';t bad but it is a bit limited in the power options like different temps for first layer, Kisslicer is nice but it seems to be producing models that have defects in the outer perimeter shell.  Slic3r was producing good models but the support was a real PITA to remove - it was too close to the model ... I';ve downgraded to an older version which has different support algorithms and learned a few tweaks and it is much better now ... still not perfect but good enough.

Added a mk5b file which increases the depth of the bottom shell to allow for recessed M3 nuts.  You will need 18mm bolts to make everything flush

This is looking so good. I set one to print earlier and this is the result.

Glad you are liking it ... I';m thinking the mk5a without the recessed nut holes might be good if you were mounting it on to the Omnimac OP CC3D And Revo Anti Vibration Mount

One thing I did notice, it did print a strange artefact beneath the portal for the Input pins.  My thinking is that if you select to print support that the slicer should factor that in to the print.

The artefact did show up in the design when I dragged the STL file into MakerWare.

I';ll remove them from the files and re-attach them at some point :)

Ha! I missed that particular point ...... ::)
