Pro camera Gimbals are sodding expensive !!

But why, there's nothing much in them really.  I'm building an octocopter with NHP, in fact its built and fly's very well. So on to the camera mount.

I can lift 2kg or so but that's no excuse to make a heavy mount. We are designing a scaleable gimbal that should suffice all sizes of quad/hex etc.

Its not easy and I'm running into problems with the design so time to start again.  If anyone wants to get involved I'd be more than happy - the design would be shared out to the community and I'll cnc cut them at cost for contributors.

Design Ideas in autocad preferred. but equally JPG or similar is good, I can convert it with a bit of effort.

Hi Mark,

Yep, deffinitely up for that!

I know it appears that gimbals are simple, but it is a little more complicated that it may first appear, although it does depend what you want to achieve, and what kind of camera you are looking to carry!

Get in touch through the shop and we'll talk further!

Best!

Adam Polak (http://polakiumengineering.org/?cat=48) designed a very good looking one however he says that it is untested and I was trying to find cheaper manufacturer here in UK and found that its cheaper to order from Adam';s shop (in UK the manufacture of a single unit costs £300). For now I have the bearings and servos.... :(. Adam';s shop is here http://www.shapeways.com/shops/pkmeng and Adam';s project is herehttp://www.thingiverse.com/thing:20080] http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:20080...

Yes, We are now into the 8th re-cut and test. Jeez its not easy but I think we have something good this time. It looks like we can produce an Octo frame with camera gimbal on 2 axis included sub £500. And all carbon !!!

Hey, just caught up on the replies here, good work, the gimble looks really neat, do you have any video of working prototypes yet?
