Eagle Experience?

Just in the ';Man Cave'; putting the final touches to a really basic quad - I wanted to build a ';no frills flying machine'; that I could let friends play (with without worrying too much about crash damage costs  :crossfingers:).

In my hoarde of bits I found an Eagle 6 in 1 Flight Controller that I';ve nrever used and I';m thinking of giving that a whirl in my ';basic build'; - has anyone had any experience with this controller - any comments?

Gaza07

Ive never had an eagle controller I think they are a kk type controller but configured with dip switches for the frame type, I dont think they have any form of auto level and might be hard for total newbs to fly, you would be better off with some thing that has auto level and setup so its very stable the kk2 is under 20 quid and is very very good the auto level is excellent  ~~

reading the instructions, one of the dip switches sets either ';normal'; mode or ';sport'; mode. Could this be the ';auto level';?

Gaza07

That';s probably just to alter the rate at which you can control it the sport mode would be a lot more twitchy and used for flips and stuff, the best thing to do is set it to normal and fit it see how it feels

You';re probably right. I';m going to give it a go anyway but I';ll no doubt end up sticking a KK Board on it as you suggested. I';ve stuck the board on with velcro so I can easily swap it out.

I';m also trying the Skywalker Quattro ESC for the first time - it ';Lukes'; good to me (pun intended). The motors are KDA 1100kv. The frame is a 450 cheapo clone. Only took a couple of hours to throw together - the longest time spent was crimping connectors on the Rx leads!

Just got to decide which props now... 8';s or 10';s?

I know its nothing special but I know how much we love to see pics - so here';s some of my ';No Frills and Ready for Spills'; quad. Will be flying it later today.

If the quad is for other people, try it with 8 inch props. Less prop balancing will be required to get it flying smoothly and you';ll break fewer of them. As long as it isn';t terribly underpowered it should be fine.

Just to add - from what i remember reading about the Eagle pro a while ago, the stuff gary was saying is correct. It';s very similar to the KK1 only easier to use without a computer to reflash it with because it has dip-switches for some of the settings.

Just took it out for a quick spin - difficult to say how it handles as its really windy at the moment but from the short 5 minute flight I had, it seems reasonably stable but tends to over correct itself a bit. Could have been a reaction to the wind though - its quite gusty

I';m going to wait for the wind to drop and try again - I';ll try adjusting the trim pots

Nice looking quad you should treat it to a KK2 board only £18.50 at the HK UK warehouse and it has auto level that works really well to  ~~

I';ve actually got a KK2 board that I originally installed in a Turnigy HAL frame. I replaced it with a Multiwii because I thought the KK2 board was unstable but as it turned out it was actually one of the ESC';s that was playing up.

I';ve never really tried the KK2 Board so I think I';ll take your advice and scrap the Eagle - my project for this evening!

Gaza07

Ive just tested a kk2 and it was very good although I do use simonk flashed esc';s and im told it suits them the most, if your not using flashed esc';s you will prob have to turn the rates down a bit  ~~
