Here is a good youtube vid on the setup of the Naze32, mucho information in it.  Little long but worth watching.

How to setup a Naze32 Acro / Funfly Flight Controller

I fly stuff

Dek

Is this Naze32  only up to Quad or can it do hex too?. Reason I ask is I have 90% of the bits to build a 550 size hex and was going to sell the bits off but this might make it worth hanging onto them.

shazzy

I was reading somewhere that the open pilot firmware for the CC3& has been ported to the naze32.  Think that';s will be a project to try out over a weekend or so!

Naze32 will definitely do a hex and I do believe that it will do an octo as well, the wiring becomes a bit "novel" for octo from what I read.  But yes, Hex out of the box ~~

I flew the quadvolution today using a naze controller, just the acro one, and it was sooooo nice to fly, love multiwii, love naze even more
and that was on default pids, not even tuned it yet

Where to get the latest Naze32 software?

The CLI version command says that my Naze32 is running
# version
Afro32 CLI version 2.2 Feb 20 2014 / 19:54:16

Yet the official Wiki page has no such version: https://code.google.com/p/afrodevices/downloads/list
[attach=1]

So am I being a bit daft or just looking in the wrong place.

What I see so far is that the Naze32 as supplied by @philtrum arrives with the latest and greatest software.  But if the Wiki is so hopelessly out of date then where do we need to monitor for later software updates?

I wondered that but assumed the CLI was a subprogram bundled in with Baseflight Configurator (which is currently version 0.29) while the Baseflight that gets loaded onto the Naze is another version again....

Hands0n

Its a bit confusing ... The Baseflight status line (bottom of the app) suggests this is running Baseflight version 2.3.

And that doesn';t even begin to link to the "official" software repo.

If you use the firmware flasher you get a recent build. These don';t seem to have a version number at all so I wonder if it';s taking nightlies or something, where 2.3 is the branch it came from?

Hands0n

I must admit that I am a bit puzzled right now as to what and where.

What firmware flasher are you using? Is it "Flash Loader Demo"?

In Baselight Configurator. Before you connect your board there';s a Firmware Flasher button on the right hand side of the main screen.

Hands0n

Ha, I never noticed that before ::)

I suppose that answers where to get the firmware from. Looks like no prospect of downgrading if you load up a duff version... or can you.

I';m wary of nightlies!

You can choose to upgrade from online (where it looks like you get the latest) or from offline (which means you can go get the version you want).

Be careful - I used online and it worked, but it wipes all your settings to defaults. There';s an option to backup your settings which luckily I';d used, so was able to load them back in again.

Hands0n

OK, so I';ve just done a CLI dump and Config backup in the GUI.  Lets see what this does ::)

I';m trying to get my head around PWM widths and max/min throttle min_command etc

After Firmware update the settings (GUI and CLI - you did back these up? right?) need to be restored AND the board needs to be recalibrated (Acc and Mag).

@barneyg - cheers mate, that makes a bit more sense!  And now I';ve used the built in software updater it says so too ... Doh!  :blink

[attach=1]

I';ve not been able to find out how to show the installed version, not that that is too much of an issue.  It just would be nice to be able to see whats on the board.

CLI says:
[attach=2]

Yet the Firmware Flasher (GitHub) says I';ve just installed a later version:
[attach=3]

Curiouser and curiouser ::)

I';ve now turned off MOTOR_STOP, as I like having the props spin up when armed and also not to competely cut out if I zero the throttle in flight.

Set min_throttle down to 1100, and adjusted my Tx channels so all the PWMs are 1000-2000. Need to get some airtime to do some PID tuning now.

I also found out a couple of other cool things

1) how to be able to rotate the board on the quad and tell it where front is (could be handy if you wanted the headers pointing a certain way)

2) that you can have 3 different profiles of PIDs and switch between them with the Tx sticks

shazzy

Got mine today set it all up based on Mochaboy';s video tutorial, got well excited....and quad keeps flipping.

Double checked all connections, wiring, esc layout and motor direction/layout. Even did all the mincommand stuff and got the motors running together.

One thing I haven';t worked out is whether high or low pwm are needed for high or low throttle, rudder (left and right), pitch (up and down) etc as I have a feeling my channels are reversed. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Awesome smoothness there MrBen, thanks for sharing.  Got any pics of the quad itself? Always interesting to see whats doing all the hard work ::)

I have been able to put a couple packs through mine.  Super stable, quick response, and nice and smooth.  Plus the alt hold works great.  Cant recommend the Naze32 enough.

Have you used another multiwii board in the past ? ... how do they compare ?

Yes header pin/strips. Although I think some have a different pitch :shrug:

Anyone know what the pins are called that connect to the board.

I want to add a couple for the bluetooth connection.

is it these?

How many pins do you need, I got a few spare as I ordered some strip a few weeks ago
