Gaza - can you make the subject line section in the forum topic list wider? It's cutting off the subject field really short.

Had another negative encounter, it's been a few years since the last one, just an uneducated ******, going on about drones being illegal yada yada yada.    :-/

MinimOSD correct way to supply VCC / wiring so its not damaged

After learning the hard way thought I would share my findings..

It appears the MinimOSD has a design fault, many people that follow the guide on the wiki to connect it up fry their boards.. (http://code.google.com/p/arducam-osd/wiki/minimosd)

This happens due to the way the MinimOSD supplies are connected, at one side there is 5V provided by the FCC or UBEC, the other side has a 12v supply that is used for the camera nd tx feed as the diagram below. (do not connect up as shown below as you will most likely blow the board due to a design fault).

The reason the board blows is that the 5V regulator that powers the analogue side of the board via an onboard 5v regulators... its fragile and heats up..  (also caused by ground issues), many people have blown their boards because of this..

A better way is not to use the onboard 5v regulator but feed 5v from a UBEC or FCC to the MinimOSD as shown the diagram below and to use a LC filter to provide the 12v feed directly to the camera and video TX.

On the board there are two solder pads to join the analogue and digital Ground and 5V';s lines  to enabled this.

Hope this makes sense and saves someone a board..
