Newbie Q: FrSky telemetry serial link to Multiwiiwingui

Hi all, I';m slowly getting together my ';Alien'; quad build... I have done the power wiring, programmed the ESCs, today I got the radio, gps, bluetooth and all that set up and talking to the win gui over bluetooth. I';m using a FrSky 8 channel setup with telemetry, and I really like seeing the quad voltage displayed on my transmitter (using the Frsky screen).

It seems that the FrSky RX has got a serial port on it so surely I should be able to plug in the AIOP serial port in some way and extract the data at the transmitter somehow. I';m sure someone will have done this, not sure where to look!! thanks a lot!

Hi reck,

You will need one of these to display voltage on your FLD02 display.

http://www.t9hobbysport.com/frsky-telemetry-battery-voltage-sensor

However, I wouldn';t run it off the FC board but directly off of the battery itself. I understand that you can then set up a low voltage alarm that will bleep at you when it is reached.

Enjoy.

this is where you need to look :

http://www.multiwii.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1929

It sends all data from the FC to the RX ... you will need a line level converter and inverter as well to connect between the AIOP and the RX.

I use this code and it is Excellent ... though there is an error with the GPS speed calc ... the multiplication factor needs changing but it is all in that thread somewhere :)

@jimbo, thanks thats exactly what I already have working nicely - in fact on my old quad as well. With one of those you get to see voltage on the battery *and* on the RX but as the RX is attached to a BEC and the FC it is a pretty unexciting 4.7v all the time. (The internal sensor in the RX tells you this, you can';t repurpose it to something else afaik)

@barneyg, perfect, just what I needed thanks a lot. now time to get the pipe and slippers out to read the 50 page thread!

If you want I can post a 2.3 source with the patches in.

the voltage 2 box can still be used to show the result of the a1 or a2 battery sensor

@Barneyg

Yes please! I am also interested in viewing RSSI as well.

Cheers.

@barneyg - and me too... looking at the thread the code is all over the place!

@jimbo - you get RSSI anyway as default with the Frsky setup - at least you do on mine?? On the default screen you have the battery voltage on the model as well as the RSSI from the model to the TX and vice versa, and you set up the alarms accordingly, so I get alerts when the battery on the quad is too low or the signal strength in either direction is below the alarm level....

Hi Reck,

Yes I do get RSSI automatically on my FLD02 screen above my TX. However, I know that it can be displayed through the board on the GUI or through an OSD. This and battery info would be extremely useful!

With regards to alarms, I understand that these are it stored so have to be set upon each startup and may be different for different models.

I';ve attached my current source tree ... This includes the original Ziegler Nichols Pot PID tuning code, the Pot PID tuning that I wrote based on the original and the Frsky Telemetry code with a few corrections - the timer correctly increments (one min and one second is shown as 00:01:01 rather than 01:00:01) and the GPS speed is now correctly calculated (no my quad wasn';t doing 75MPH  :whistling:)

I';ve also fixed the GPS code to not use the depricated prog_* types for newer avr-gcc';s (like the one I use in Eclipse on my Mac) It was supposed to be fixed in the release of 2.3 but I was still getting an error so I fixed it

Standard disclaimer ... Please make sure you modify config.h for your FC and I take no responsibility for you quad going off and finding a new home
