Hi all,
I have rebuilt my poor quadcopter again, but this time I have added a Naza and GPS to help me with my craps piloting skills!
Here it is not crashing for a change!!

Dammit! I wanted to edit my post again, but I cant for some reason.  It is an RCTimer SM450 / RM450 V2 frame.

More videos and pics to follow if the rain stops. I feel like I should have taken up Ark building as a hobby instead!!

Brian :)

Finally got out to test fly the Naza GPS in some nasty wind!

Being a bit worried at my own skills, and not having a Failsafe on the RX provided with the Turnigy 9X';s RX I have decided to lower the odds of killing my quad even further. I definitely made a good move by buying the Naza - GPS, as the only thing I have damaged since fitting that is a few cheapo props!

I have now ordered 1 x Frsky 2.4Ghz Conversion ( Hack ) Module, and 1 x Frsky V8FR-II 8 channel receiver. These will enable the Failsafe option when I go out of range of the TX or it switches itself off, and my lovely Quad will simply return home.

I have also fitted a cheapo gimbal - which I';m not really that happy with to be honest - I may be buying different type of gimbal in the future.

Gimbal Test.

Gimbal Test 2.

More pics/videos to come soon...

can';t watch your video';s at work, but what is it you';re not happy about the gimbal Brian?

I';m searching for that holy grail of a cheap but good gimbal.

Brian

its just cheap and flimsy, and wobbely. I havent flown with it yet - havent had the chance due to work, weather etc.. It may be the best thing since sliced bread, but dont like it at the moment.

Brian

I have now done the FrSky mod to my Turnigy 9X, and now have a working Failsafe if my TX gets switched off, or goes out of range. :)

The following video is Pre TX mod, so no failsafe tests, just a bit of Gimbal testing and some nice views of Cowes.

Latest News...
I tested my TX power off fail safe, and everything worked perfectly, so much so that I was able to push the quad out further and higher and came up with the latest video. Apart from the gimbal juddering when the quad is moving forward at speed, the video is lovely when the quad is holding position in the air.

My latest video...
Quadcopter Flight over Cowes.

Looks great in HD, apart from the crappy gimbal problems - the gimbal is now binned, and I repaired my broken legs (with hot glue and cable ties!!) Next flight I';ll go even further, and higher. I am also looking for a better 2 axis gimbal up to a maximum of £100ish which will later go on to the Sausagecopter and become my awesome camera drone!

Have fun all,
Brian :)

Other than the gimble playing up its a very good video, cant you take the slack out of the gimble joints ?
YouTube   printing-3d  Thingiverse  3d-printworx

Brian

There isn';t any slack, its rock solid, its like the motor is juddering all the time at a certain angle? It could probably be the servo';s, but the gimbal is also very wobbly and shonkey feeling. I want something that feels a bit more substantial than a crisp packet!

I wonder if the gimbal is getting interference from somewhere else? i presume the servo extension wires are quite long for it. Would using ferrite rings help?

I think I would try to resolve it with different servos or some filtering  ~~

Looked like a great flight.. you went further than I would dare..

To me it looked like the servos were hitting their limits when flying forward..    how do you have the gimbal mounted.. is it on rubber bobbins or directly bolted ?

I bought these to mount mine..

Hi all,
After a good play about, I';ve found that the camera is bouncing off the roll servo at the rear. Due to the size of the Gopro';s case I have decided to get hold of a hollow type gimbal with nothing that will block the rearward motion of the gimbal. I';ll get this after Christmas.

So, until then it';ll be a static camera jammed onto the landing gear like all the videos before. They aren';t all that bad really.

I have also found another problem. One of my motors shaft';s has slipped down. the shaft is solid and the circlip is still there, but the whole outrunner thingy slips up about 7mm. I';ve ordered 4 new motors, so I';ll have some spares, and be able to build my new Xmas Hex straight away ;) Well, when I';ve ordered some new ESC';s too... (Next pay day - they are cheap enough to get Xmas pressies too!!)

Have fun all,
Brian :wack0
