I have been after one of those 3D L.E.D. cube kits for a while but have opted to try out a 2D  25 x 25 LED project board kit.  625 L.E.D.'s in total and I have to solder each of them lol.

It is Arduino powered and I want to dabble with programming it.  Looks like you can achieve some cool effects from basic scrolling text to 3D animation rendering.
Ordered from MAKER SHED http://www.makershed.com/product_p/mkems3.htm.  By the way the MAKE magazine is a great read for hobbyists like us, comes out every 3 months $14.99 I think.   I have the volume which has an article about the arduino mega autopilot evalution and got me interested in quads and gps etc.  You can get the Make magazine on ebay too.

Will report back once I have built the Peggy2LE LED board :)

You don't get any LED's with it - where are you getting yours from?

ice.

Gav

yeah I know.   I will get LEDs from the cheapest place I can find or RS up the road

Gav

Just bought 1000 Blue LEDs for this fun kit, all for £25 delivered.  Bargain!  Only need 625 of em though lol.  Might have it ready for Halloween and some pumkin animations in the window hehe.

I will be in LED heaven soon lol.

Balders

Ooh, if you have some led's spare, I'll take some off your hands.  I was after about 32.

Let me know how much once you get them. I'm not in any hurry :)

ebay of course lol.  From HongKong.  There are sooo many different types of LED out there but I wanted 5mm type with diffused lens with no more than 2000 mCd intensity.  Costs £70 - £100 for similar LEDs from a UK seller.  I got more than I need incase some are duff out the bag.

yeah seen that.  Just want to exercise old programming knowledge really and LEDs are always cool to play around with.

I t would be nice if you take pics of the build process and make a thread for it, as im very interested in all things LED to  ~~
