So, I was going to build a Hex next year but ...

... then along came Jumpy07 (cheers fella  :beer2: ) in the For Sale section   with a Hex 450 including 1000KV motors, and the rest is history

Oh, and also a conversation on the same day about 30A Afro FCs as cheap as chips from HK with SimonK native.

How the hell was I supposed to resist that little lot?

Errr, it isn';t exactly small

Can';t wait to get started on it

The iPhone is included for a sense of scale

The Afro ESCs have arrived, 30A of SimonK goodness  ~~

They are fully soldered up, so connecting is pretty much plug and play. This I like, although it does mean that I won';t be using the Hex';s built in PDU board, instead I will be using a hex lead (see pics). This adds a little to the weight, I may seek out a 6-way PDU with pre-soldered plugs to replace it later.

Time to start the build then ...

Oh I like the look of those.

I';ve broken 2 ESCs and I hate soldering them to the distribution board as it seems almost designed to discourage people from owning them.

Pence to implement and if you don';t like plugs then cut them off and solder it  yourself.

The next question is  what are they like to fly with (and does the improved  flashing method make life easier)

Waiting eagerly to find a nice alternative to the rc timer 30A ones that I have (as they have changed the design a little and I don';t like potentially mismatched versions of my ESCs)

I see what you mean, Yes, i cut the plugs off the power end, soldered them to the board, it';s workrd out well.

From todays flights (3) 5000';s, very good.  Smooth response, i couldn';t detect any wobble on descent

Andy, are you flying Afro ESC too?

I';ve assembled the hardware. Time to stop before I do something stupid  :slap: . There';s plenty of time tomorrow

So far, the PDU cable is tied in, ESC';s loose fitted, air frame assembled and motors bolted to the rotor arms.

Yep Danny boy, I am, and very very pleased with them I am too.  Just cutting up various sequences from yesterday';s events.  Darn-it!, shopping time!.. catch u laters.

P.S those motors look familiar.  I had some like those, Red Rocket';s or suchlike from China, very ';ballsy'; if I remember rightly.  THey were on my first quad.

Awesome - I was so impressed with the write up on the Afro that I jumped straight in and ordered same day.

The Hex frame and motors are from Jumpy07 - he put them up for sale and I grabbed the chance to get in early    They look the ticket. I haven';t powered any of them up yet.  Later today I';m hoping to finish off the Hex basics, get the FC and RX installed and have a first bash at setting up the FC in Mission Planner.

Depending on what my next flying thing is. If it';s not a quad then my existing quad may get treated to a set.

If the next project is a quad then I think it will have Afros installed from the start.

Nothing wrong with the current rc timer ones except I have broken two already
