Faulty motor or faulty ESC?

Not sure this is the right section.

My quad has started to dip one of its rear arms for a fraction of a second while in flight. Once a couple of weeks ago and 4 times in a very shirt test flight today (well under a minute)

After a semi controlled landing I found that the the dipping arm has a motor that will sometimes twitch rather than spin up.

Initially I had thought that it could be dust as I was doing some low level flying over an all weather pitch last time I was out)

I have checked the motor and it appears to be clean, my ESC soldering looks fine.

Any suggestions whether it is a motor issue or could it possibly be an ESC that';s playing up?

I don';t want to assume its thr motor, change it and then plough the thing into the ground cos its the ESC.

As is typical I don';t have a spare ESC anyway

Swap the two rear motors around.
If the other rear arm dips it';s the motor, if the same arm dips it';s the ESC.

If it twitches then it';s likely missing a phase. I would not fly until found -  it';s warned twice,  next is stationary mair mid flight.

I would check bullet connectors from esc to motor. Wires going into motor - tug on them gently. Once might snap off. I had one snap in the heatshrink as it went into motor.

Could also be ecs but a brownout or incoming power issue on that would be a crash.

Take props off,  spin up motors and giggle wires. It might gift a clue.

Are joints between esc and motor not shorting out due on vibration?

I had a bad crash because I ignored the twitch and then it spun up ok. Let go mid flight :(

Didn';t get flying last week due to family commitments, but spent Saturday night checking things and stripping the motor down

Solder joints and bulker connectors checked last week and all appeared to be fine and rechecked again today.

I will probably resolder the power to the ESC tonight and check the leads at the miror end.

Seems it was the ESC as plugging another motor in had the same issue.

Sadly the hard landing also fractured an arm so I will have to order another arm and an ESC.

Damn now I have nothing to fly tomorrow

<grump>

Could have been worse though

bummer but at least u know what the problem is now

must have maybe burnt a FET or something out in the crash.
Point and click.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

I suspect that it was unhappy before the crash as it was doing that dipping nonsense beforehand.

Anyway hopefully I will have a few bits arriving mid week (was incredibly bored today though)
