Very Windy Today!

Will, I finished work early and decided to go for a fly!

However, here in Southampton, it was windy, very windy. So, I thought "What the hec, what';s the worse that could happen?" and went for it!

Firstly I confirmed with my Iphone App, that it was steady at 16 and gusting to 20 mph!

I took the video with my phone in my breast pocket hence why it looks like the cameraman is drunk!

Enjoy.......

Had a quick flight myself as well today and altitude hold on the Naza was really struggling  ::)

I';m so please that it wasn';t just my $30 controller having problems in today';s wind!

I actually quite enjoy flying when it';s windy, mostly because if it';s at our clubs field there';s only me normally flying (which means I don';t have to wait patiently for a slot) - quads are less of a handful in windy conditions than Planes!

nub

its been windy here for days and i';ve been wanting to fly but with the naza on it there';s no point, its bloody horrible in the wind.
Point and click.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

Flew a lipo out in the garden for a quick fix but no fun down the flying field when it';s windy as it has been.

Was that vid taken at the park down by ';Goals'; next to Milbrook rd west A33?
Ps sack the camera man lol

I do fly occasionally in the wind, it';s just not a lot of fun sometimes. One thing I have learned over the years is not just to fly for the sake of it, there';s always another day ~~

It wasn';t much fun to be honest but I haven';t flow for a week so it was an itch that just had to be scratched  :frantic:

Was quite surprised as the quad felt more settled in manual mode than when in attitude mode.  I guess this is more to do with the naza doing more in attitude mode to try and keep things where they should be.

Mine';s a Crius AOIP with Peter Kings settings on, so long as you remember that you have to be continually making adjustments for wind direction and gusting it';s fine. That was what killed my KK2/Tarot 450 combination off last weekend - it doesn';t like it plus it made me realise how good the Crius is with the right firmware (2.9 Addons).
Compared to my Wot4 Foam-e that I used to fly in wind the quad is a doddle.

I still do not like flying in wind  :o - despite having possibly the two best FCs these days (Naza and APM).  It doesn';t matter, manual or assisted-auto, the quad is at risk, particularly in yesterday';s where I doubt many multi-rotors have the power to overcome the peak gusts.  I';ve had my share of near-losses to keep me going for the next 12 months  :frantic:

As Biffa says - there is always another day  ~~

Flying in strong wind is indeed a challenge!

I just love it as it certainly tones up the reactions.

I';ve flown 1/4 scale gliders in 30-40 mph winds and I was really surprised just how smooth it was. I';ve also flown EPP flat pack electric models in strong winds and as long as the model can fly forwards into the wind, it';s doable!

Great fun and I';ve never lost or pranged a model! I tend to falter when conditions are ideal! Ha..

Been flying. My new Bixler2 the last couple of days, to windy to try FPV, but great fun just hanging on the wind.
