Hi all,

I recently purchased a Turnigy Talon V1 CF tricopter frame from Hobbyking, along with all other parts.  However, besides the fact that I was sent a faulty KK2 board (Y gyro won';t calibrate), I am unsure if there are things that I';ve missed.

At this moment in time, I haven';t yet got a motor spinning due to the faulty KK2.

Below is my list of parts, but I';m unsure if I';m missing something.

  • Turnigy Talon V1 tricopter frame
  • Hobbyking KK2 Flight controller board (reported as faulty to HK)
  • OrangeRx R615 6CH DSM2 receiver
  • Turnigy D3530/14 1100KV Brushless Outrunner Motor (x3)
  • Turnigy Multistar 30 Amp Multi-rotor Brushless ESC 2-4S (OPTO)
  • TGY-375DMG Metal gear Digital Servo

That';s the core components.  I have a radio already that is DSM2 compatible (OrangeRX T-SIX), but I have a few questions regarding my setup.

My ESC';s are OPTO';s so there is no voltage supplied down the 3 pin data cable.
I read that the KK2 board can be powered with up to a 3S battery, i.e. 11.1v.  Therefore I was going to fit my battery harness with a Y lead to get power and data to the KK2 on the M1 pins.  Is this correct, or are there better alternatives?  A dodgy diagram of what I mean can be found here:  http://i.imgur.com/Lftrefz.png

I have the servo specified above, but none of the mounting hardware supplied is usable to mount the servo to the frame.  If anyone else has a Talon Tri, please can you confirm how you mounted it, preferably without resorting to hot-glue?

Also, is there anything else I';m missing?  Do I need a separate low voltage alarm?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Morrolan

Hi Morrolan

If you connect your battery direct to the kk2 board i am afraid you will have another faulty board as the voltage from the esc';s is much lower.

ESCs with BECs output 5 volts which is what the flight controller needs. If you give it 12.6 volts directly from a lipo it will fry.

If you have OPTO escs you will need a separate BEC. They are small and cheap;

One circlip short of a quadcopter.
1 lobe short of an antenna.

Late reply so I hope it';s still relivent.
The kk2 needs two supplies if your running a servo...I think...had similar problem on my tri after using the escs on a multiwii.
Try wiring power to m1 and m2 that should power the servo.
