FTDI breakout board

Hi, I just bought one of these to connect my minimOSD to my computer. I';ve read the description but it';s not very clear what it is unless you actually know anything about Arduino, is it basically a USB controller for an Arduino board if summarised in normal language?

Yeah, it connects a usb lead from your computer to the pins o  the arduino board to program and control.
