FPV quad in pipeline

Well this hobby is getting expensive, I';m buying what I want rather than what I need  I';m going to make a TBS Discovery (or clone) quad  ~~

I';ve just bought...
RCTimer APM 2.5 with GPS and telemetry
F30A ESCs to be flashed with SimonK
9x5 CFRP RCTimer props

For the rest of the stuff I';m probably getting
Torxpower 2216 900kv motors
TBS Disco frame without the CORE. Mainly for the neatness of the PCB wiring.
APM current sensor/power supply.
OSD of some sort.
I may also go to UHF for control too.

Design theme is stealth so I';m going to try to keep it low profile and use black components where possible or cover them in black heat shrink.

The build won';t start until September so I have time to plan and buy the right stuff, I learnt so much doing my first one and can now apply that to make something amazing. Watch this space...

I just dropped the dough on a Disco  ~~

Here';s what';s going into it.

TBS Discovery frame with core.
4x black DJI arms (+2 spares)
APM 2.5+ with GPS and telemetry module
4x Sunnysky X2212-13 980kv motors (despite the specs saying 2-3S they will run 4S fine)
4x F30A ESCs to be flashed with SimonK
9x5 carbon props
2x Zippy compact 4000mAh 4S batteries

I can';t wait until I';m back in the UK and can build it up ::) I';m hoping to have it ready just in time for the Basingstoke meet.

Sounds like a good un. I';ve just received some 9x5 props for my TBS to replace the 8x4.5 as most people seem to use them. Good luck with the build mate!

Cheers :) just the waiting game for it all to arrive now  :waiting:

Nice one col.
I';ve almost completed my home brew disco/dead cat type framed fpv quad with gimbal osd GPS etc. The build has been enjoyable and now its even more exciting now I';m nearing completion.
Enjoy delivery and build of your bits :-)

Just a test fit to see what it will look like, it';s smaller than I thought it';d be. I';ll start the build proper tomorrow.

Well it';s pretty much flyable now, the ESCs are just temp soldered to the motors while I tested if stuff works with props off.
I just need to flash, re-heatshrink and add bullet connectors to the ESCs. Then it';s pretty much just sticking stuff down and tightening bolts before it';s maiden time  ~~

First garden test flight done! WOW!

This thing flies like it';s on rails, it';s so precise it feels like the sticks are mechanically connected to the quad and even on self level it just sits there. I can';t wait to get it into some open space  ~~

The build was very simple too, out of the box the APM was spot on, I haven';t had to adjust anything apart from the standard chosing frame and doing calibrations.

Was  interesting to see your TBS at the Basingstoke meet yesterday.   Very light machine! Well is was without camera and fpv clobber. I forgot what camera you said you intend to fit up front?

Col_M

I';m going for the CMQ1993X-L36 from securitycamera2000 for my board cam and then probably a GoPro for recording which seems to be de rigueur.

I have the board camera on my 450 and it';s a good ';un, it';s also 12v like the VTx so easy to wire up.
