Spectrum Dx8 OR Dx7s - upgrade from Dx6i

Is it there any big difference between Dx8 and Dx7s?
Will I need to upgrade again if I get the Dx7s?
What is what I will actually use/need using it with dji flight controllers?
If anyone has used them both, please share your thoughts..
Thanks in advance!
Regards

Evgeni

P.S. It will be used with medium size AP platform with brushless gimbal,  video link, etc.

kilby

I have a DX7s and it';s more than I need and behaves perfectly

The ability to save the configs and carry out firmware updates via SD card is so handy
It';s well built and it also feels well built (one reason I didn';t buy the 9X)
It has everything that you need and the vast majority of what you want
Possible to get receivers without resorting to mailorder
Horizon/Spektrum have a pretty good after sales reputation

BUT

If I had had the funds I probably would have went for the 8 (or 9)

1 Backlight on the display (sounds trivial but when you are sitting at 2am playing with mixes the backlight is so useful)
2 The extra 3 position switch (sounds silly but it will be useful)
3 Probably will want the extra channel in the future
4 Extra glider functionality (although not strictly necessary it';s a shiny thing that I don';t have)

Not much kit, but what I have I like
Armattan Tilt 2, Morphite 180, Quark 150, Decapitated NanoQX
Taranis+

DX8 is a much better way to go, much more flexibility. However, I';ve gone from a DX6i to a Hitec Aurora 9 and have to say that I';ve got no regrets, programming is so much easier - but then again I do fly a right old mixture of models so need that flexibility and ease of use. If you only intend to fly multis then it';s not so critical, that is unless you are going to get into fpv then the more channels you have to play with the better.

flybywire

i do think more is more when considering rc gear personally.  I went from a dx6 to 8, wondered why i bought the 6!
I like the 8,  I fly sailplanes as well, latest firmware adds 3rd model type of sailplane, so big bonus.  ~~
Quite happy with my setup as it is, but if i ever changed it, i';d go for either a futaba 14sg sbus or dx10 (if money were no object that is).

The spiritual home of fpv large
Keep it emax, capiche?
Hardware? sure, I got hardware!

Balders

I bought a DX7S when I went to WKM...still have my Dx6i although I might sell it now as a bundle with one of my old airframes.

I kinda regret not going for the 8, for the extra 3 pos switch, I could have found a use for it (IOC or something) but I';m not unhappy with the 7S.  I needed a pot to control the gimbal pitch, that was the main thing.

Like Darrell says, the Aurora9 is very nice from a programming point of view and the DX8 is great too. I';ve got both, using the Aurora for fixed wing and the Spektrum DX8 for multis. To be honest, I';m liking both of them and would be hard pressed to recommend one, over the other. Both will do the job perfectly, so see what feels good in your hands (if pushed, I';d say the A9 feels better build quality) and buy that one. Like the others, for the price difference, forget the DX7s and go 8 or even 9 if you go the spekky route. Enjoy tho, its always a good day when you buy new transmitters
