Version 4.0 released for Naza-M

It appears it will work on both V1 and V2 but I';m not positive. I see it is available for the Phantom so I guess it is OK for V1? Sure sounds good!

Hi Jim,

Just had a read through the features of R4.0 and a couple of interesting additions. Flight limits - set to 2000M vertical and radius as default. If you exceed limits set it goes into RTH until back in limits again! 2000M vertical is a bit high me thinks. :hmm:

Some mention of waypoints which I didn';t see detail of, have to read some more!

Thanks for the heads up on this upgrade for V1 and V2  ~~

Guys, good news.  I updated my Wookong M to latest F/W last week, this supports 50 ';free'; waypoints.  Looks like they';re giving us 20 for a Naza.
ALso motor test is useful.  Not quite sure about ';maximize the taking off conditions to meet most requirements of taking off on moving vehicles';??
Woah, slow down DJI!

Seriously, I seem to remember having an issue last time with the latest assistant, in that it kept calling for the previous assistant to run the latest firmware.
Made me wonder if it was compatible with v1 although it was there on the V1 download page.
Odd?, you get that wth DJI stuff occationally.  I think their second (V1) F/W update had some kind of glitch, whereby the MC failed to boot properly!  Had to roll back the F/Ware.

Glad to see this at last. I';ve been having major issues when trying to launch of the back of my van.

On 3.16 At anything over 90mph it just shoots off backwards so fingers crossed 4.0 will resolve this  ::)

Thought I';d share my experiences with the latest upgrades.  I started with assistant v 3.16, as 3.18 (latest) would not play ball.  So I loaded up v 3.16 and connected my Naza version 1.  Immediately I did so a warning appeared, bottom right corner, telling me that my IMU was out of calibration, and to re-calibrate.  I';ve done this before of course, so tried it again, and for the next 3 or 4 attempts I got an error message regarding the temp of the unit, and a generic message to power off the unit and leave it for 5 mins.

As I say, I tried this 3 or 4 times, but may have been a little impatient, so decided to engage my wife in conversation for half an hour or so over a cup of tea, and leave the beast out in the cool conservatory.  On returning, I powered up the craft (props off of course!) and this time, was able to calibrate, and sure enough as calibration started the little triangle of doom disappeared!
Afterwards I reconnected up my gimbal and performed the so-called Naza dance, and got the GPS calibrated for good measure.
Oh, by the way, make a note of your settings, ';cause this v wipes your settings (I didn';t) but know them off by heart pretty much, gains 100/100/120/80/80 just had to enter the gps orientation settings and I was good to go.
Now the bit I don';t fully comprehend, the site lists assistant 3.18 as the latest version, and firmware v4.0 lates F/W, but this will not load to my MC.  I can only assume that because I don';t have the BTU module attached, the upgrade is not possible?

So over to you my helpful geezers, what did you find?

I neeeeeeeeed to know?????? :waiting: :hmm:

You cannot load V4 unless you are using assistant 3.18.

Simon, I';ve tried the 3.18 assistant several times, it won';t read my Naza correctly, the tabs don';t work.
I';ll try installing it again.
Have you installed fware 4?  If so, A: what v of naza do you have? and B: do you hve the BTU fitted?
Thanking you!

Very confusing, but I think the Firmware according to the software will be released soon.

This is most confusing. Why have they made the manuals and the assistant available if it won';t download the software?
This is from the DJI Support site this morning. The release date was yesterday (11th) so maybe they have caught up?

Not sure why, but I can';t resist a new bit of firmware!  I don';t even have the BTU.  Anyhow, I thought I';d finish the job of updating my Naza (ignoring the mantra if it aint broke..etc) to get to v 4.0.
Yesterday evening I managed to run the assistant 2.18, and found that the v 4.0 firmware was indeed now accessible.  After downloading, installing and recycling power, I found, like the previous evening, that my GPS compass was now reportedly out of kilter.  Now, I don';t know if this was actually the case, given that I';d done nothing with it prior to the upgrade, or that the new firmware is in some way more acurate?  Guess I';ll never know.  However, unlike the previous evening';s shenanigans with advanced calibration eventually succeding, I found that despite many many attempts I could not get rid of the warning triangle telling me that my GPS mod was outside the range for aceptable calibration.  I remebered somewhere hearing about folk using magnets to ';de-gauss'; the GPS puck, so decided to Google for more info.  Luckily, Colin Ginn came to my assistance in the shape of this vid:

DJI Resetting the Compass of the Phantom (when Calibration fails)

Man, there';s a guy who loves his job!  6 figure sallary, free world travel, and gets to play with multi';s all day! :notworthy:

Ok, so now I was back in with a chance of getting my beloved quad back in the air again.  Bouyed up, I grabbed a magnet from my daughte';s mag board, and proceeded to de-gauss the heck out of the poor puck (isn';t that a Shakespearean character?) I did this with the unit unplugged from the power, then powered up and did the Naza dance for good measure.  Bingo! When I went back into the assistant, mod  reading for GPS was a healthy 1500 ish (edit: previously 350) .  Thanks Colin, I wish more CEO';s would roll their sleeves up and get stuck in, this guy certainly beleives in the product!
All I need now to utilise the upgrade is a BTU, bluetooth module & 2.4 Ghz datalink eek!  more dosh..Hang on, isn';t Chistmas coming up??

Yep, deffo turning that feature off!
As DJI might say "Surely adding lovely apsect (sic) of function to feature set adding pure joy-fullness of landing craft in side alleyways.."

Seriously folks; I';ve just been in to the software, to adjust the settings for limits, appears that it cannot simply be turned off, so I';ve set limits over what I could possibly need, at least until it';s fixed.
On reading the accompanying notes in the assistant, it does say that when the craft reaches it';s horizontal range limit (whatever that';s been set to) right stick (mode 2) functions are disabled, i.e no aileron/elevator control, but it';s then supposed to head home, until it';s back within the set range, whereby control is returned.
From the video, the guy seems shocked that he';s lost control of right stick?  THat';s meant to happen.  I can';t however explain what happened after, as the craft does appear to go in the wrong direction, and as such, does not return control back to the pilot.  We have to take the guy at his word that he had checked his compass calibrations thoroughly, as something I did mentioned in a previous post when I had the mother of all jobs to get compass mod range back to norm.
If he had not done this, then it would be pilot/operator error, not firmware.

Guess we';ll never know.  I';m surprised nobody';s mentioned the fact that he';s tested out a major new f-ware upgrade over his neighbour';s houses??  Even Colin Guinn wouldn';t suck that!!!±

One of the comments to that video seems to give the answer:-

Hi Richard - Failsafe would have saved you.

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday while I was testing v4.00 at 20m limits.
Identical problem but I engaged failsafe and thank feck it turned and flew within my 20m boundary where I could switch off failsafe and regain control.

btw - If you ONLY apply left or right stick and fly out of the limit sideways, the firmware does what it should. As soon as you fly forwards or backwards out of the ';zone'; that';s when the problem shows up !

SimonS

I also note from the instructions that height and distance can be set between 10m and 100000m.

Who is going to be the first to try and get their TBS to 100km altitude?  :o :o :o
