DX8 easy lipo conversion

I';m always up for a bit of sef improvement me, so when my DX8 low battery warning sounded the other day (I';m certain I';d only charged it the day before?) I immediately looked up the replacement 4000 mAh lipo (getting rid of the stock 2000 mAh NiMh battery supplied) that I';d seen ages ago on the web.
Sure enough, there are plenty of sellers around, starting with the premium product itself: Horizon Hobby';s ';official'; product for a princely £44.52.  Ouch!
Then down the chain a tad, eBay sellers can let you have it for c. £29.95..tempting?
Getting better!  Ok, so if you';re not a ';brand snob';, Turnigy have replicated the pack (which contains curcuitry to prevent overcharging if you didn';t already know!) and HK sell it for £11.85.  Good old HK.
Real world: Ok, HK say it';s in stock at the UK warehouse, but when I went to the checkout, it suddenly switched to Global WH, so being the impatient soul I am, I went back to eBay and ordered one from there for about £21 with postage.  Extravagant or what?
It was here next day, more or less, and I wasted no time in fitting.

Spektrum DX8 - Installing the Lipo Battery

After I';d goggled this instructional vid above, I dug out that un-explained piece of ';L'; shaped foam from my DX8 box, and replaced the existing pieces therein.
I made sure the polarity was correct, then dialled in the new voltage settings in the setup screen.
It came ';semi-charged'; as do most lipo';s, so I again wasted no time in charging her up.  I can';t say for sure how long the charge process took, because I switched the charger on pior to retiring to my bed, and woke some hours later to find the light had gone off on the trany, signalling full charge.
When morning came I checked it out, and sure enough it was registering 8.1 v, pretty much on the money, not bad really for a device with no balance lead attached!
I';ve read all the reviews on HK site, and most are good, I think one or two poor souls must have received a duff pack, but as one guy clearly hadn';t followed the simple instructions (and left his old foam pieces in), I';m not surprised!

Do it!

Done it. Now, because it lasts so long, I have to remember to charge it now and again!
