Hi All,
Got my disco running with the standard greenhorn 25mw tx and dominator receiver. I';m not looking to fly miles away but would like to know everyone';s thoughts on upgrading to the 200mw and maybe the rc305.
Also any heads up on the HAM licence situation regards the video tx';s would be appreciated.

P.s. am down in Plymouth if anyone else is down this way..

Miles away?? How many miles? You only have 10-12 mins, and you will need a decent set of aerials for that.  Not sure if 200mw is big enough.

If you want to stay on 5.8GHz you can go out past 2 miles with a Immersionrc 600mAh VTX, but your Disco will not do much more, the most I';ve had out of mine was about 4.7miles total and she came home on Lipo fumes.
On this post/vid I went out to 1.8miles and my full spec of my Disco is in the same thread

hi arrowfish, you need not worry about a ham licence as it only concerns transmitting from the ground. I think its mainly americans that got a use for the ham licence due to different laws.
200mw should be more than plenty for "local" flying but remember it`s 5.8ghz and doesn';t penetrate objects like trees very well so keep line of sight.
I happen to hold a foundation amateur radio licence from years ago, I decided to keep it just incase but I think its of no use for transmitting from the airframe. it would be nice if I could though  :hmm:

as long as you keep line of sight and use decent antenna`s you can go pretty far with 5.8ghz but as already mentioned the limiting factor may be your craft.
I`m no expert either, just a newbie like yourself, this is just what I have gathered so far.

I';ve just sold my immersion 13db patch antenna, but there';s video evidence of a wing going out 2 miles or more with a 600 mw vtx

is a patch linear or circular polarised? I have a cheap 5.8ghz helical I was thinking of using. I`d rather wait till I got a diversity receiver though first, so I can use a clover for local then the helical for far out?

This is my set up on my Disco and I have had no problems 500M+ TBS Rookie 200mv TX 5.8GHz and Bluebeam Ultra by IBCrazy TBS 69cam works well. I've had it further out however this was on the beach and it was line of sight.

I hold an amateur licence too but as far as i am aware you cant use it for airborne models
If someone throw's a stone at you throw a flower at them just remember to throw the pot with it.
