I have had a chance to do a quick test tonight with the new Rabbit with the MS5611 baro and Gps,
I flashed the new firmware to it and did all the setup again, 0 degrees is now north in the Gui,
And all I can say is wow I used the whole pack in position hold and it held height and position very well, the gps was mostly within a couple of meters, the wind would blow it off now and then but the gps would put it right back,
It not perfect but it is a big step in the right direction and can only get better  ;)

Hi Gaza,

I've been watching this controller with interest. I know its got the Multi WI boys jumping a bit because they believe it to have their firmware inside.

Now I read some bits and pieces but I couldn't quite get through the translations so just to get it straight is this board all ready to go or do you still need to cut up WII controllers and add bits ?

I'm thinking of getting one just to have a play...

If you get one of these boards you need to get the one with the new Baro the MS5611 same as fitted to the APM2, you can also buy it with the gps which is now working but but still needs a little tweeking, There seems to be regular updates to the firmware but at the moment this is closed source,
This is probably the most stable board i have flown to date although I haven't had a Naza or Wookong, if you get the one with the expansion board fitted (Baro / Compass) it then has all the sensors and deff doesn't use any multi wii parts, the mcu is 32 bit  arm, Iam very pleased with mine, have a look at a few of the video's on here  ;)

I've flown the Wookong and TBH it wasn't much different from the APM2, certainly I wouldn't spend the asking price for it.

I flew mikrokopter on the same day and that felt much better.

Now I know its all subject to the setup on the particular machines I flew but my money is currently on Ardu to be the best all round platform going into next year.

I m glad you said that because I fully intend on buying an APM2 as soon as funds will allow, Ive never been convinced by the wookong and the price is just ridiculous, Ive tried the Megapirate port of Arducopter but I believe some thing is lost or messed up in the port because it just isnt that stable and will not sit still  ;)

MadMax

Nice loitering there or should I say position hold  ;) have you got a problem with your copter Sakiskoz,
Im also wondering why it dropped on to your washing line was there a problem ?

Gaza07

Ive had the chance to test the carefree on this firmware version using all 4 points of the compass,
it was reported on RCG that there were problems when using carefree in one direction then swapping to another, I tested all 4 points and had no problems at all  ~~

Gary this is the best Care Free Test until now, and is clear that when arming Board chance Head direction and not when On - Off CF switch in same arming.
Now we must test CF in open field to integrated.

Thanks Gary
Sakis

Gaza07

Hope you dont mind sakis I made a thread just for your compass calibration, it is very usefull and I will make it a sticky  ~~

yea to alter the carefree direction you must land and re-arm in the new direction the switch has no affect on this  ;)

Just now i have finish my second flight and i had test PH and GH

About 16 total min flight PH is held the position and when i have little wind go away for 5-6 meter and then go back in it position I am very content with today PH.

I try PH with Auto Stab + HL and with out HL, that i see is PH alone is held the Height .

Go Home is nice and went back to its Home position.

An other day i will try GH with Auto Landing together and if i have second person i make video

Gaza07

i was thinking about trying go home and auto landing, do you select both at the same time ?
does it go home then land or do you have to switch them seperate

I've seen some video's of people doing go home and land but they never say if they have slected them separately or not, I will have to test it, Im hoping that in the code if it has go home and land together it always does the go home first  ~~

Well I've asked over on RCG so we might soon know the answer  ::)

Gaza07

I got an answer over on RCG very quickly by Nebstress he conforms that you can have go home and land on the same switch and it works fine, I will be testing this as soon as I get time to get down to the field  ~~

In manual say we can select to same switch GO Home and AL.
I my test i will try first each alone to be sure for AL and then in one switch.

sakiskoz

Yes it is good except auto landing and with USAKK cui and new potential  it will be master in low cost FC's

MadMax

Any landing where it dont get busted up is a good landing  ::) very good videos guys keep em coming,
the rabbit really does look very stable  ~~

Hi everybody,

here is a small video to explain how is going the gps initialization of the rabbit, at least when all is fine !

http://youtu.be/pHrIoVnN7gY

Nice flights !

Gaza07

Thanks for your informative video  ~~ I was told the first light when viewing the number of sats was 5 but this is clearly the wrong information, I have checked the rabbit docs and also checked in the alpha gui and you are correct the first light is 6 sats and so on to 13,
is that frame one of jakubs early fibre glass frames ?

Yes Gazza, I understand from the manual that it should be five plus the number of leds  ;)
This is obvious because it needs at least 6 satellites to pass the self-checking !
Yes you're right it is a Jakub frame v2, I bought it in april 2011 and never used it till yesterday !
It happily replace the plywood HK frame I destroyed last week  :-\
I made a short but nice maiden flight yesterday with Height Lock and Auto Landing but this afternoon it was raining dogs and rabbits !
So tomorrow is another day !

Gaza07

It says it can show a max of 13 sats which makes the first light 6 well thats my logic  ::)
I saw your picture over on RCG of the broken HK frame its a shame but ply wood is never going to stand up to much more than a heavy landing  :o
my first frame and kk board were from Jakub I still have both but the KK board is in the draw and the frame has a flyduino mega fitted running either megapirate or multi wii

Hi everybody,
not really a maiden flight but the second one only !

I tried the autolanding, but funny thing, it makes two attempts before succeeding, any ideas, perhaps the US setup ?

http://youtu.be/vtXgQevbjqc

Nice flights !

Gaza07

Hi Jean its probably some thing to do with the sonar, it is working well off the ground as you can see your height hold is good, but one thing I noticed in the Gui is if you have it to low it jumps to a higher reading like its going out of its use able range, check in the Gui see what reading your getting, It might sound daft but I measure mine with a ruler to see if it was reading the right height when on the bench and its within a couple of mm, although I havent tried auto land yet  :o
When you land I think the sonar is getting the error like I describe above the measurement gets lower then all of the sudden jumps up because the sonar module might be to low, I wonder if grass might affect it more if it is raised and also reduces the height more
