LIPO to replace 8 cell Nicad for Tx

My Futaba T6exa  Tx Nicads are near dead so I want to replace them with Lipo, but I can not find a form factor to fit the case.  Has anyone solved this already?
I was thinking of modifying the case by making battery compartment deeper- not too difficult.  Has anyone done this?

You may want to consider a LiFe as they seem to be very popular for transmitters (providing that you have the capability to charge it)
Not much kit, but what I have I like
Armattan Tilt 2, Morphite 180, Quark 150, Decapitated NanoQX
Taranis+

I can charge a liFe.
I will have a look at their characteristics.
Do you use them?

Not yet, but from the reading I have been doing I suspect it will be on the to do list fairly soon

Life (aka A123) packs are fine but get to know how they work. Unlike lipos or nicads they don';t have a linear discharge. They drop off very quick when they start getting flat. I use Life packs on my Goblin 500 heli and they are brilliant but I don';t push them to the limits of discharge, but at less than a tenner I have a few. Good thing about Life is they can be left fully charged without damage.

I';ve just started using a LiFE in my Turnigy 9X. It is a good fit in the battery compartment but needed a bit of fiddling around to get the supplied plug (there are three) to fit. It did with a bit of a push. I';ve not had any long term use of it yet, but seems better than fiddling around with loads of AA cells in a carrier.
