Just.....can't.....stop.....spending.....

As the title suggests really. I think I';m actually addicted to spending money on multirotor goodies. I';ve always regarded myself as not having an addictive personality. Smoking just makes me feel sick. Gambling I can take it or leave it. Computer games bore me.

I';m sure I';m not alone but has anybody come across a cure as its getting seriously out if hand.

I wouldn';t mind so much if I was actually using half the stuff I buy but a lot of it just collects dust. EBay is the devil. I seem to enjoy tinkering and admiring my creations and flying is just a side line.

I';ve only just bought a hex frame (something I';ve never considered before) and before I';ve even started to build it I';ve ordered a T copter frame as well (also something I';ve never really been interested in).

It just becomes obsessive. Parcels are coming through the door on a daily basis. I';m bending the truth about costs of things to my gf. Although to be fair nothing has been hundreds of pounds since I bought my gopro and fat sharks. Just the odd 20, 30 or so quid each time I guess but it all adds up.

My spare room is like aladins cave. I can';t bare to sell any of it "in case I need it one day" and that one day probably won';t come until everything becomes old tech and worthless.

Look out for me on the next series of that TV show about hoarders. I will soon be living in amongst dusty crius boards and hundreds of spare 450 arms and broken props. I';ll have on a jumper knitted from old servo wire.

Don';t worry man!

It';s all OK  ~~

YOU ARE COMPLETELY NORMAL

Its called being a bloke, we all do it

Well maybe not the servo wire jumper.............

I';m glad I';m not the only one! I';ve got more hobbies on the go than hefners got women! I';ve got rc cars, trucks, planes multi rotors, high end airsoft guns, motorbikes, and I paint war hammer! Me and the mrs are buying a new house and had to budget for an extra room and minimum double garage just for my toys ~~

Because of all the deliveries i get, I know my postman as well as any of my mates!

It really is just being a bloke. :beer2:
If YOU can fly it, I CAN crash it.

hotrodspike

One little question..... looking at the photo';s, how the hell do you keep everything SOOOOOOO tidy?

There is just something so pleasurable about searching the web for that next must-have part or gadget. Apparently shopping releases endorphins, so is a great stress relief, so people shop more when they';re stressed. (Not suggesting anything in your case @robshaw!)

Apart from which, the constant stream of deliveries is like christmas every day!

That table is nowhere near full, you can still see the top in places. Fill it with even more tat then it';ll be just like mine.

powerlord

That';s just one room...  The whole house is like that.  I keep meaning to get a cleaner... But wtf would she do ? Pile it all in a heap?

Rob, like the rest I know how you feel. Always planning the next project with endless hours shopping online. I unfortunately have the taste for the expensive stuff and I have several pricey projects that are unfinished. I have Trex 700e, two DLG gliders and a bunch of EPP wings to build, all this quad stuff is cheap in comparison!

guest325

Forgot to add my non rc related stuff, omg - guitars, valve amps, classic rock cd';s, computers and bits thereof, guitar mags, rc mags..... house is busting at the seams
You are 100% perfectly normal mate!!!

Hands0n

Ah. And there was I wondering and worried it was just me. You';ve done me a right favour with this thread @robshaw, if I could I';d shake your hand in gratitude.  I';ll also sit the Mrs down and show her this thread, as it was only yesterday that I was informed about the foolishness of taking over her dining room with my hobby.  Hell! I';ve only taken up one entire wall. There are three others left.

I totally get the compulsive buying - all manner of little bits and pieces to do the little jobs on our aircraft. Its amazing just what you need, and I always over-buy so there are "spares".

I';ve got a "Flight Box" which I got from Wilkinons for a £tenner - amazing value. But I';ve outgrown it in terms of spare parts and now need another to stash the long-term-keep stuff.

You need one of those special man boxes called a shed! I';ve got 3

I';ve got a study full of computer stuff that I can hardly open the door to get in to.  Does that count?

This is my main collection of bits. Not in the view is a 450 size flight case, a large tool box (full), several smaller boxes and cases with "stuff" in. The white box on the chair has loads of frame spares in it. A common affliction it seems... buy, buy, buy. Now what';s due in the post tomorrow?

My study is full ... servers and routers etc are in the loft now :)

Got a Turnigy USB Linker on Wednesday ... A load of 8mm Threaded Rod nuts and washers to make a frame for the CNC projects :)  on Thursday, Some 20mm Alu Bar and a set of Taps & die';s should arrive early next week.  Tuesday also saw me replacing a load of climbing gear that had exceeded its use by date ... The list goes on and on ... There is barely a week goes by without a delivery - anything less and I';d start to worry You lot were right in the head

it all started some 25 yrs ago,now my house is taken over by umpteen rc planes, boxes of bits n pieces..
it never ends, mmmmmmm thats nice ill buy it........ ::)
dont grow up,just buy bigger toys!!!!

Gav

It really does, ';never end';

New shirt new shoes no way.....    another multirotor part?....yeah baby

Although recently I';ve gone through all my rc clobber and sold off all the bits or kit I don';t use or need.  It cleanses the mind the man cave and guilt of having too much stuff.  Only lasts a short time though.

ChrisH

I took a few bits and pieces to sell/give away to the NW Meet.... Never got them out of the boot so they ended back in the cave!

Thanks for the all the comforting words guys. It means a lot to know I';m not alone with my addiction.
Perhaps we should use this thread for regular meet ups to discuss and support each other with this terrible affliction.
