The company that makes broadcast quality cameras have just bought out a new BlackMagic Design Pocket camera (£665). I';ve not looked at all the technical specs yet, but if their broadcast cameras are anything to go by, they oooze quality! Have a look! It only weighs 355g, accepts 12v input, lots of lens combinations and also features a LANC cable for remote control of lens and zoom etc.

I wonder what this would be like against other cameras in the same price range!
Always smile because you never know who could be falling in love with it. :) Drone Operator in North Wales. www.aerialworx.co.uk

Looks really interesting.  I';d still say though for aerial work you are hard pushed to beat the Sony hx series.  I have hx9 and hx20.  There are loads of pro reviews comparing the video favourably to dslr. Worth a look

Hmm I think £665 is the body only so still a good bit to spend on a Lens or two.

Max frame rate of 30fps and no mention of the ability to take stills makes it very much focused on cinematic film production and those who want to do a lot of post correction.

Nice bit of kit though and added to my lottery win list.........

Problems with this camera:

 • Massively cropped sensor (x2 image crop, meaning a standard 50mm prime lens becomes a 100mm telephoto lens) meaning you';ll need to buy very wide angle glass for aerial work.
 • The advertised RAW functionality is not shipping with the launch of the camera, the only recording mode available is ProRes which puts any Windows users in the fantastic situation of having to transcode all the footage that comes off this camera (even AVID and Premiere users will begrudge this fact)
 • Don';t forget your HDMI converter for FPV for your camera operator because it doesn';t have SD AV out.
 • 30fps

Otherwise it looks pretty sick. There';s some nice super 16 glass available but prices are skyrocketing at the moment with the resurgence of S16 sized sensors.
I reverse polarities for fun.
