APM 2.5 + Spektrum AR610 RTH issues

So far so good with the quad except.....

I decided to replace the Orange 6 channel receiver my quad was supplied with for a Spektrum AR610 receiver. It';s not a matter of snobbery but a case of watching 2 fixed wing planes ignore all input and crash near an electrical substation last Wednesday (that area is a bit of a Bermuda for Orange equipped planes)

So I swapped the receiver and everything is great (took 30 minutes to get my flights modes back to normal) except the Failsafe RTL mode.

Turning off the TX results in the quad simply landing )gently) wherever it happens to me, rather than a proper RTL

In mission planner the quad states Failsafe when the TX is turned off and RTL is definitely selected. The throttle channel drops to about 920 when the receiver is turned off (the threshold is set to 975)

I did get ignore step 7 (in the following link) the first couple of times I tried.

The guide I used http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/spektrum-dx8-and-ar8000-failsafe-setup

Have I missed something ?

Thanks

Bugger the 610 doesn';t do the Preset Failsafe mode.

However the APM still enters failsafe mode so I still don';t understand why I don';t get the full RTH behavior  (though I suppose a gentle descent is better than nothing)

That all depends upon what is below the aircraft as it gently descends  ::)  Motorway, railway line, clifftop edge, river and it isn';t so good.  :o

If you can I';d suggest selling the 610 on eBay and grabbing either a AR6115e (park flyer if you don';t need extreme range) or the AR6210 (with or without sattelite) which both have failsafe that will trigger the RTH you';re after.

Thanks,

Im more confused that the throttle drops to a suitably low level to trigger RTH

I wont be buying anything till payday :(, hopefully im getting myself a trainer plane (as i want to get into fixed wing too) so the 610 can go into that and I can buy something more suitable for the quad

Bugger looks like the orange is going back in again
