DJI Motors or Upgrade?

Hey Guys

Introduced myself the other day, I recently lost my F450 in a river in Scotland :(

I am now looking at building a TBS Discovery (possibly Pro, does anyone know how long they are taking to ship right now?) I am after some advice regarding the motors and ESC';s. I was looking at buying a DJI ARTF F450 Kit and replacing the frame with the TBS, just utilizing the DJI motors and ESCs.

I worked out that for an extra £56 I could buy the parts separate and upgrade to Tiger Motor M2212 980kV and Maytech 30A ESC';s

What are the benefits of this over the DJI kit? I will be flying FPV and hooking up a GoPro so will it give me less jello?

Is it true there is more choice with props when moving away from the standard DJI motors?

Also looking to buy the stuff from Quadcopters.co.uk, I have emailed today to see if I could collect rather than have it delivered as I only live up the road!

Sorry for all the questions.

Ben
P.S. This site is fantastic!  :beer2:

The DJI motors use different props.. they have two flats in the shaft.. you can fit alternative props though..

Most of the DJI motors have crap bearings.. the Tiger motors are far superior.. that';s what I run on my TBS

Tiger motors for the win dude;) I run torque power motors from quadcopters UK and they are rebranded tiger motors. The quality is superb!
If YOU can fly it, I CAN crash it.

Great that';s settled then I will go for the Tiger';s or similar.

Does anyone have any info on the lead times for the Disco Pro?

Thanks

Cozp83

id recommend the iconic-x v2 or the qav500 or 540g. check them out dude......

Will check out the other models before I commit. I haven';t even heard of them before now

Thanks Vin, have already emailed Quadcopters.co.uk on Tuesday night, still not heard anything, will give them a call next week if I still haven';t heard. I am in no rush really.

Using T-Motors with their esc';s will give you maximum efficiency.
This is what people are reporting when comparing motors.
Hope it helps... and of course make a good calculation before you order
www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.htm?ecalc&lang=en

Choose the right battery:
-fpv cruise around flight- Low C rating battery,  less weight and more time up
-3d acro-high C rating battery.. power

Spend some time on that calculator instead of looking at prices.
And try to stay away from water if possible.
Cheers  :beer2:

btw: choose frame by the weight not by the look

I would ring. From my experiences earlier this year I never got responses to a number of emails but get Geoff on the phone and you';re sorted!

The first batch of Discovery Pro';s are being shipped from Hong Kong on 6th August (latest TBS update). Every dealer has been initially limited to 3 only. My initial batch were all spoken for as soon as the Discovery Pro was announced so I think you may struggle to get one any time soon.

There';s been no announcement yet as to when the second batch will be available
