How do you mount your 808#16 camera?

Hi,

With my quad, I';m getting a bit of jello. It';s a lot less now that I have it mounted on foam with some elastic bands.

Here';s a video of the results.

When I put mine on my Twister I use 12mm car wash sponge (quite firm) and elastic bands.
This is one I did when I was still very much a beginner, soon be putting it on my 450, will post vid when I';ve managed to get round to it.

Nice one Darrell,

I';ll give that a try and see how it goes.

Cheers.  ~~

I think the real trick to getting it right is getting the best comprise between soft and firm, too much of either doesn';t work and I';m sure that this is an individual thing; no two models are exactly alike so best setting up will vary from quad to quad.

Tried mine today and it was carp - mahoosive jello!!!
Will post vid on another thread because it was also quite amusing!

what i have found is
if you got everything balanced out as best you can this creates high freq vibs which results in the need for some stiff mounting the best i found was the hard foam from a heli blade holder so the camera is in unison with the frame

an out of balanced frame gives harder vibs so a soft gel would work better

same theory goes for the F/C as well as the camera

I got similar results to you Darrell, the first results I got were terrible, enough to make you feel seasick!

I';ve gone down another route this afternoon and tried to attach an isolating platform.
I';ve copied the idea from flitetest so unfortunately cant take credit for the idea.  I dont think mounting the camera on its own would have any effect, it needs weight to stop the effects of the vibration.  Therefore I';ve mounted the camera as well as the battery to the isolation plate.  It';s original intention was to use it with my gopro but as that';s lost in a field somewhere I';m reduced to the 808 camera from now.

So far my tests seem to have reduced the jello in the image, but only a proper flight will confirm that.  Trouble is I';ve now introduced oscillation into the quad?!  Very strange phenomenon, at least it is to me as I';ve not changed the overall weight of the quad.  I';ll try reducing my gains a bit to see if that gets rid of it..

Hey Darrell,

That is bad! I';ve never had it that bad!

Please let us know how and whenyou correct it.

Cheers.

Hi Dp106,

Now that';s a great idea that I shall think about adopting on my quad.  ~~

Cheers.

I have now remounted my battery, skids and camera onto a new platform that is rubber mounted to the main frame housing the motors and FC. I have also mounted the camera on a double fibreglass platform which has been hot glued in place. Then the camera is double sided foam mounted and velcro strap retained. May be overkill but if it works!

I have tested it indoors and no jello! Whoop Whoop!

I';l test in the field weather permitting and post a video.

Here is a pic of the mount.

I';ve found what is most likely contributing to the jello I got - one of my motors is u/s bearing is stuffed!
Considering I';ve only put about 30 packs through it that';s not good bearing in mind ( ::) ) that they are supposed to be nsk bearings - I suspect that they are not!!!
Anyway I am going to replace them with turnigy propdrives - I know that they are good! The rest of the Rctimer motors will now be used in my T copter project, finally get it moving!
