Brian

Hi all,
I have decided to broadcast my first build live on Ustream. I'll start broadcasting at about 1400 and start building at about 1500, or later. I'll put the link to my broadcast here and in the chat, and shoutbox as soon as I start broadcasting.

There is a chat box built into Ustream, but I'll also have the Multi-rotor chat window open. You are all welcome to come and take the ****** out of my crappy soldering technique!

Have fun all,
Brian  ::)

I'll do my best to be around for most of it - should be interesting (and good luck)!

Is it live?  All I can see is you cutting up a CD carrier with a pair of blunt scissors lol.

Hey by the way I see you have RC timer motors - I would be interested to know what prop adaptors you are using and if you get any oscillation when you fly.  What kv are the motors and what props you using?

Gav

Brian

1000Kv motors and just the thingys that came with the motors...

Lots of people have found the prop adapters that come with the rctimer props to be a bit flimsy. It's very easy to break them in a crash or by over-tightening them. Once bent they will cause bad vibrations, almost as bad as you'd get from cheap unbalanced propellers.

Have a look through this thread to see what other people have tried;

http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php/topic,276.0.html

For 10 inch props of the sort most people seem to be using, the best prop adapters i have found are these ones;

I think those sort are better - but you wont get them on unless you shorten the axle on your motor.

I'd give them a try myself but i haven't got anything that will cut through the metal. I keep meaning to save up for a decent dremmel.

Good build video - what was the black cd tray cut out for as it looks like you have having the FC on the top? I assume it is a battery tray?

All will be revealed in the next video installment of "Brian's Route to the Scene of the Accident!"

Hi Brian

I would recommend Graupner 10 x 5 props.  Guaranteed great results with those 1000kv motors.

cheers
Gav

Brian

Hi all again,
As a few of you guys know, I had my "final" consignment of bits and bobs yesterday, Yay! However there were a few items that were not included. Cant remember what they are called now but the little leads that go from the FC to the Receiver were not included in either the TX/RX kit I bought or the KK2.0 FC.

Is this normal? seems a bit stupid to me if it is. I have had a massive look on-line, and the only leads that I can find are for a Futuba fitting (something or other) and have a male and a female  connector. As far as I know I just need male to male cables. Where do I get these elusive leads from, and what are they called?

Any way I was able to mount the FC, add XT60 connectors to both the Quad and the charging leads, and charge the battery's. I also calibrated my ESC's (Thanks again Teslahed for a tutorial I can actually follow!) I was also able to determine which way to connect up my motors for the correct direction. According to the KK2.0's instructions I still cant connect my props yet, so the quad somehow seems naked now that I have mounted the FC board.

Anyway this is where I am now...

I am 5 little leads away from flying... :wack0 :-/ :angry: :shrug:

Nice post and progress :goodpost:

It's annoying to get stuck because you are short of something so minor (I've been stopped by the lack of a nut before) but it does look like you've got almost everything you need.

If you type 'male to male servo lead' into ebay or google you'll find loads of hits for the cable you are missing.

It's been overlooked because you've done everything yourself the hard (proper) way rather than buying a Ready To Fly or ARTF kit - these things happen.

I just bought a bundle of standard extension leads from ebay and made my own. That way you get custom lengths.

Brian

I have already ordered a bunch of short ones from a UK store, and also had an email moan at Hobby King, and asked them to send me out a bunch too. Only a few more days till my first flight hopefully!

Balders

They certainly don't come bundled with the KKV2, you have to order separately.

As per chat I originally hacked up a load of standard servo extension leads, but they are not the neatest thing in the world.  The proper ones are spot on.  Ordered 3 sets from HK when I ordered my KKV2 board, but that's only through experience :)
