Finally got off the sofa long enough to start hacking apart my "poundshop" chasing LED's...I've got two more "arms" to make but I've gone from video one (chasing in a circular pattern) to video two (chasing along the arms)

Video one:

Video two:

Will be interesting to see what it looks like in the air.  I'll still be running my red/gree led's for orientation.

Bought 3 "wands"...long arm things with a simple led driver, think it was either on or flashing that was it.  Also bought one "firbe optic" globe type thing, the base of which you can see in the second video.  Just removed the top of this, spliced/soldered the "wand" arm contents straight on top of the existing red/blue/green leds and for the first video it was as simple as that.

Last night I had to desolder all the led's and then make up "chasing" lights by joining 1-4-7, 2-5-8, 3-6-9 to give a chasing effect...it's not brilliant but for four quid, who cares :)

The guts of the wand were simply a 3 button cell battery holder, switch for cycling through the 3 pattern options, and a small pcb with a chip and the 3 primary colour LED's.  Once I spliced into those I covered the top with hot glue to hold things in place.
