Later this year Updated WIN8  Vers 1 can be uploaded FREE.
It alters the present stupid layout and restores the start button and makes it smoother to use. 
At last a bit of sense prevails in Seattle and its not pushed out as a new OS at a hefty price....again.

I`m sticking with windows 7 on my laptop and base station how ever much they pay me to change .

I just don`t like windows 8 on a non touch screen device !!!!

I guess the consensus is to stay on Win 7 if a) you';re happy with it AND b) you';re running a boringly ordinary desktop.  Who has done a desktop upgrade from 7 to 8 and was it as seamless as MS suggest it is?

I got lumbered with 8 after buying a new laptop 

Wasn';t confident that I';d get all the drivers and apps if I downgraded as they don';t provide discs these days 

Getting used to it, like anything that introduces changes it takes time. 

The 8.1 update seems a move in the right direction, driven by customers not MS.

 Windows 8 sucks big time even some software thats alledgedly meant for win8 dosnt work properly as i found out with cyberlink powerdirector 11 waste of £80.00 now consigned to the bin.

If it';s stated as being Win8 compatible I wouldn';t give up without a fight. Notify the seller then raise a problem with Cyberlink. Certainly wouldn';t throw £80 away!

I have to put up with Win7 x64 at work, we did a quick evaluation of Win8 on a spare machine with all of our usual software - guess what?  half of it refused to work properly........end of (thank heaven)!
Why oh why don';t Dassault Systems port Solidworks to Linux???

win8 is ok, i had it on a laptop but running win7 on this laptop,

tried linux, was complete crap.

win7 still is the most stable, xp really isnt anything great.

win8 is for a play/social machine
win7 is for a work machine
