hey guys i got some money to burn and an itch to scratch!

how much weight could four of these in quad configuration lift??
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__25413__Turnigy_RotoMax_150cc_Size_Brushless_Outrunner_Motor.html

more info soon.........  ;D  ::) ;)

Point and click.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

yama

thats amazing  :o

did you see the video of the guy who mounted it to a hang glider with a custom 27" x 10 prop

ground take off';s im still a little secptical  though of the video.....

ChrisH

2.5Kg and nearly 10KW EACH!!! :frantic:

Four of those you could turn a bus into a quad!!

yeah the hand glider was what got me thinking.....

You would need money to burn with the battery packs you would need for them!

Cozp83

im interested in the theory at this stage. ;) ~~
If YOU can fly it, I CAN crash it.

guest325

To put things into perspective you would need 4 of these connected series/parallel for 6 mins of full throttle flight.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__21374__ZIPPY_Compact_5000mAh_7S_25C_Lipo_Pack.html
That said it would shift one hell of a lot of weight!!!

SimonS

Six of those TigerMotors on a Hexa would give you in excess of 100HP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cozp83

that doesnt seem to bad, if i wanted this thing to fly for 45 mins how much/many batteries? i may have the funding to find out...........

The problem is that with the current battery technology after a certain point things become self defeating; weight or volume becomes prohibitive - the only feasible approach is to come up with a configuration you think might work and then look at the theoretical needs to get it into the air but be prepared to compromise on flight times.
I don';t know how scalable these models are but scaling up based on total power should be a good start!

That';s about the strength of it, don';t think I would like to be in the middle of all tthose props whizzing around - one failure and instant sushi

Cozp83

joking aside, i think i may have blagged the money to build something big enough to sit in the middle of!!
if these motors combined are pushing out nearly 40000 watts they';d have a massive load carrying capability so would a small generator be an option??

right update on the MEGAQUAD. about to go into a meeting with some investors. its the first step to building this thing! wish me luck peoples!!

A 40 Kw generator is not small! http://www.generatorsales.com/order/Cummins-40-kW-Diesel-Generator.asp?page=6711

3.3L diesel 2000lbs...  :frantic:

I';ll worry about keeping it in the air when I get to that stage;) lol! Pretty sure thats not gonna be an option(generator)   ;)
If YOU can fly it, I CAN crash it.

Cozp83

What about a smaller generator that keeps the batteries topped up? Like charge as you use? Or maybe two lots of cells with a relay that switches between the charged an the drained  cells?
If YOU can fly it, I CAN crash it.

ChrisH

Even the small 1KW type they use on market stalls are still huge.

Why switch between packs, surely parallel wiring would save cost/weight?  :hmm:

Possibly your best bet is a traction battery, these days you can get one that is substantially lighter than they used to be.

Cozp83

good call darrell. at this stage id be happy just to get something this big off the ground. 5 mins hovering will do me;)
