Arducopter does that. It';s called ';follow me'; and uses a GPS enabled apm (eg my nexus 7)

Ah! That';s the thing with this hobby, so many options of things like FC';s that you have to put a stake in the ground and stick with one or two and can';t know them all!  It';s certainly an interesting option although those tracker options when it comes down out of sight sound more use!!   :hmm:

Good to see a positive news items about the hobby anyway!  ~~

Just one small problem for them to over come called the Air Navigation Order

BNUC-S Pilot with PFAW.

As in lack of control and observer? It';s similar in some ways to the DJI RTH except it is deliberate instead of a failsafe. :hmm:

So does RTH break the ANO then?  I suppose it probably must.  But surely thats got to be better than falling out of the sky and onto someone';s head.

Reckon that';s right if you want to look into the letter of it! I believe that the CAA require some form of RTH to be demonstrated for the BNUAC (or whatever the acronym is) flight test. So I would hope it must be an approved process.

As you say its preferable to crashing into a playing field full of kids!  :o
