Red Brick ESC? Thoughts?

Has anyone got experience or opinion on Red Brick ESCs?

I have picked up a set of 30A for my scratch build H-Frame from eBay and notice that there isn';t any discussion of these on here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-X-NEW-RC-30A-RED-BRICK-BRUSHLESS-ESC-SPEED-CONTROLLER-PERFECT-FOR-QUAD-COPTERS-/230892254578?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item35c2403572

All part of the learning process, I';m okay if I';ve bought into a bit of a dead end. But given that these are bargain basement price, are they really to be steered clear of for anything beyond the most basic of use?

I';ve only flown these once outside, before crashing the quad indoors (my own silly fault). Now the new props have arrived I';ve decided to get a rotten head cold  :cry and so am in no mood to do anything physical until its over. (can';t find an emoticon for sulk).  But hoping to get up and into it again over the weekend if I can lose the vertigo.

So, ESCs huh? What do you think?

They';re OK, but the price isn';t
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__26084__HobbyKing_Red_Brick_30A_ESC_UK_Warehouse_.html
To make the postage better value I usually wait until I need a few things, batteries, motors etc and then order.

The eBay worked out to £9.74 each, delivered.  Lord only knows what the US Dollar rate is, but HK postage can jack up the price - so you';re right about waiting until a few bits needed.

Good to know they';re "OK" though - I really ought to do a bit more homework. This damned impulsiveness has been a lifelong companion  :laugh:

I now buy all my stuff from HK from UK warehouse,  postage for that sort of weight is £3.50 normal PO delivery - usually takes 2-3 days.

The SimonK flashing guide i wrote;

http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=1079.0

Contains a link to a spreadsheet;

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhR02IDNb7_MdEhfVjk3MkRHVzhKdjU1YzdBQkZZRlE#gid=0

which is a list of many common ESCs with information about how to flash them, if possible.

You want to have a look at the red brick entry - there are two different red brick 30 amp ESCs listed which can both be flashed with different files. You';ll need to look at the details to work out which version you have and which file to flash.

Woah! Thanks for that. I bumped into that excellent guide earlier today. But I didn';t dig into the detail.  Just looking now I';ve noticed that for the 30A I have, row 94 of the spreadsheet is the most likely! I';ll have to take the heatshrink off one to confirm.

In anticipation of using SimonK firmware wherever possible I';ve ordered the tool from HK (I already have the USB device which I used to update my KK2 a while back).

The Red Brick do seem to be better heatsinked (one each side) than the Turnigy Plush I have on the 450. Although that begs the question of which one to face the rotor arm. :D  Decisions, decisions. ..

One side may cover the FETs powering the motors and the other side is probably heatsinking the BEC powering your flight controller. At least i have some ESCs like that - i could be wrong in your case.
