ZeroUAV YS-X6 Autopilot GPS Flight Control System

What do we know about this chaps?  I saw it in a Hobby King email which came thru this morning.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__25925__ZeroUAV_YS_X6_Autopilot_GPS_Flight_Control_System.html

As usual, the information on it seems a bit sparse and the Q&A section has degenerated into a slagging match over CE marks!

MadMax

Its supposed to be a competitor to the DJI WooKong from what ive seen it is a very good system, but the same as a lot of the out of the box solutions quite expensive, it offers 4 point waypoint flying out of the box which costs quite a lot extra with DJI

Admin

...so at current exchange rates we're looking at around £650 plus of course any duty or VAT which may be added.  How does that stack up against other comparable solutions?

MadMax

I cant find the YS-X6 for sale in the uk so I would think its about the same price as the wookong but you get the extra's, to add way point flying to the wookong costs as much again  :-/

heres the promo video for the ys-6x

http://youtu.be/7P-VE0F33Zw

And this guy seems to have quite a few videos online, I notice he has it on a DJI frame

Gaza07

It looks like a nice system I don't know to much about it, here's the manufacturers web site which also has no dealers listed http://www.zerouav.net/

If I was to consider a purchase like this and with it being quite a large investment I would only buy in the uk, because of the support and warranty  ;)

That's a really good point Gaza. I wasn't intending a purchase just yet so we'll see if it appears in HK UK whorehouse anytime soon.

MadMax

I had a look through the thread over on rcg and there is no euro or uk supplier  :-/
This hobby is changing so fast as the technology improves, you will be better of looking again when your ready as there might be something new about

I have not yet seen the full pricing for this system, I like everyone else are still waiting to see what the price will be for the "system", they might have added the 4 points from the box, but there is no price point on the "upgrade radios" needed to use it in the real world, I still think there needs to be way more information on this system to come out before there can be any real conclusions about the price / function / features.

I think DJI have little to be concerned about on a personal level, you read all the marketing and forums "DJI killer" and so on, if it comes down to a price point battle I don't think DJI will move right now.... I also think that the YS is not as pleasing on the eye, to me it looks as if the design team on the YS was the same one which were responsible for the ZX81 design ...... ;)

Martin.

You need to win the lottery to buy A DJI with the telemetry set and multiple way points having looked at this a bit further its going to be a threat to DJI and it will make them alter their pricing the same as clone frames did, Its just a shame they cant set the right price in the first place  ~~

Nice video, although i do hope he had some kind of protection for his propellers. I could see a nasty accident happening if he crashed the thing with all that exposed flesh about!

Hi Guys

I am a dealer for the YS-X6 and located in South Africa. You can find a list of dealers here: http://multirotor.co.za/?page_id=954

I can probably answer any questions you may have.

Looks like the price is pretty much the same as a wookong except you get more for your money, the YS comes with a wifi module and way points, from what Ive seen you have to buy the way points and wifi separately for the wookong and they aren't cheap
It would be nice to see a side by side comparison of the flight capabilities of each unit, then again who would buy both to do this

Actually, a lot of people have done just that. So, there are a few comparisons around. I have never used a Wookong, so I cannot compare the two systems. The YS-X6 is cheaper and gives a lot more.

It certainly looks to be a very good system, what are the people with both systems saying, which system do they prefer or are they finding them very similar
Whats the support and warranty like for each system, sorry for all the questions but it may help some one make the choice between the 2  ~~

Here are a few quotes: "Zerouav gives a great support by their self, very helpful guys. In rcg forum and they also answers to emails and skype when needed. As you might have noticed it's very quiet in discussion threads. Of course there is not as many beginners using ys than fresh naza buyers asking help for gps drifting or flipping takeoff problems but i think ys users are probably the most satisfied users what comes to any multirotor controller. Based on my experience in cinestar frame all i can say is it's very reliable, very stabile, rock solid system made from high quality components tested well etc. compared to anything i have tried so far. Even if hk sells it doesn't mean it's rubbish. Btw if you need wkm there is one for sale right now  Collecting money for second ys system.."

And another "The US source is GotHeliRC and has been very good at providing support to YS owners as have the dealers in both Austrailia and South Africa. I must say both the dealers and ZeroUAV have been better with their customers than some of their competiton including some well known brands both foreign and domestic. "

Is it not possible to actually get a section set aside for the Zero UAV YS-X6 as you have for other FC's and Auto Pilots.

Cheers

You know, I thought the same thing initially, however, when I realised how much I have spent on systems that did not work, I probably could have bought 2 # YS-X6. Okay, I would not have learnt as much, but I would have flown more and less fixing to do.

Because of these other systems, I have rebuilt my frames a number of times, mainly due to accidents due to recovering from fly aways and sudden "do its own thing". Plus I have had the experience of being chased by a quad, and backed into a wall :) Can't fault that. Oh yes, my hand also got slightly chewed once with a system that decided it didn't like the FW upgrade. Mind you my Cat has done similar damage to my hand.

Anyway, I suppose it depends what you want out this hobby. To build and fix, get chased and chewed, or to fly. I must admit, I prefer the latter.

I had a copter power up after a firmware upgrade and it came straight for my head, I had to defend my self so got a couple of cuts, it shocks you because it happens so fast to, I like tinkering with some of the flight controllers so that bit of it I enjoy,
Money is just far to tight for me to consider a high end system at the moment but I would love one and a new frame and new motors and a new camera  ::)
Its never ending

I think starting out at the bottom with KK and multi wii and others is a good thing as you say you learn a lot from it  ~~
