Went flying today and both the front 2 motors went hit and started to smoke!

Any ideas?

Cheers

Could be a few things - need to know which motors, esc';s, batteries and props to make a judgement, also can air get freely through the motor?
If you are overworking the motors either by using the wrong prop or using too high cell count both could cause the motors to cook, tell us what you have so a better idea of what went wrong could be more clear.

I think that I have ascertained what the problem was.

CG!

On the FPV550, it the CG is meant to be where the FC board is screwed onto the frame. However, this is not where the motors cross!

I have since changed all 4 motors and flew with the original CG and noticed that the front 2 motors were very warm and the back very cool!

I have now moved both the CG and the board to where the motors cross on the frame and now all motors are of the same temp.

Does this make sense?

Cheers.

Yes, makes sense - the one pair would be working much harder to compensate for the cog being wrong and obviously the other pair would be having an easy time; satisfying when you sus it out!
