So today i was bored in work and started to design a Hex for the fun of it .. .then i thought for the sake of it il test laser it

so here it is

now to go home measure the weight of this, its 15mm ply and i reckon i can fit esc in the rectangles and the wiring down to the motors to keep it looking neat ish

This is only my first thinking ... no doubt it will change lots but shall keep me amused for a while

Once i got more information i probably be annoying everyone with what i need to finish it .. as i am a noob haha

Gaza07

Wow thats some laser to cut through 15mm wood  ~~ you should link the video you linked to in chat its very impressive  :notworthy:
would your laser cut firbreglass or carbon fibre ? or would it just burn it  :beer2:

i will take a video with gopro doing the next frame design .. be even better that way

as for fibr glass and carbon fibre .. i am sure it would cut it tbh .. maybe run it at 1-2% and it shouldn';t burn it, the laser on 2% on wood .. burns half way through 15mm

Its not so much to do with power on lasers .. more on the speed you run at .. so be some messing .. i DEFO think i can do fibre glass .. now carbon fibre i am not sure ... i can only try .. just hope i do not burn a lense haha

nub

Point and click.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

MrDimmu

Ok just weighed it.. Was thinking be 400 gram...

That';s a good result in my mind so means can mess with design to make certain bits stronger

MrDimmu

Few in chat have seen this, but this is me next to the laser I used (I';m the gnome looking thing)

Will do video on next try :)

AM556

I';d say you have a weak point on the right angle corners where the large rectangle meets the arms, a radius would be much stronger. Really like the design though  ~~

. Indeed that is one of parts I will be changing for sure, was very worried about weight but lighter than I thought

Also if I snap ..doesnt matter il just burn a new one haha

nub

how long did it take to cut/burn the frame?

Did not time ...il video next one, I am guessing 2-4minutes

nub

fek aye that';s not to bad eh don';t know why but i thought it may have taken a bit longer

a video of it being cut would be cool!

Point and click.

I wanna test cut other materials and then I may offer some stuff to be cut

MrDimmu

Ok Video time for people, dont have speakers to loud =]

http://youtu.be/MptZ7IdAZ0s

Run time is about 3 minutes for a frame .. i cut a square first as it just makes it easier for getting off the other piece of wood

nub

now that';s way cool :) would love access to something like that lol i';ve always wanted a CNC router or something for making my own parts. even looked into 3D printers at one point but thought best hold off for a while until things progress a little more.

why does it pause, is that something to do with temps getting to high?

anyways great vid and thx for sharing!

Iv been looking at 3D printers, i might be able do one of the wooden frame myself and then go from there and do it on the cheap .. not sure if i really can be bothered haha

nub

booo! finger oot and get one built

pretty damn amazing what u can do with them.

Nooo when i show off .. is when i crash it instantly and it sets on fire haha

MrDimmu

Says 813gram

Just a little bit heavier.. But also is alot bigger and sturdier

MrDimmu

More ideas ... more test';s

...

il weigh it later .. hoping wont be no where near as bad as other  :whistling:

MrDimmu

Just weighed and it';s 575 that';s not to bad :)

MrDimmu

I have had a idea about feet .. so tested it out on a different design .. octo .. think il be doing a hex first though but feet work well

Leigh

Oh awesome!  That';s a huge laser cutter - would love to send you some plans ;-)
