450 clone build questions

OK so this started in the multiwii board but it now seems more appropriate for it to be in here :

Short background ... After switching to MultiWii and really liking its flight characteristics I decided to try out GPS Hold and RTH ... They didn';t work :(

After some testing I found that when the motors were running the induced magnetic field from my Power distribution board was affecting my compass so first things first I thought lets sort that out ...

OK so I took the quad apart this evening and tried things in different places,
If I place the power distribution board on top of the bottom plate of the 450 clone and the FC above the top plate I get no compas deviation - this isn';t much good as there isn';t enough clearance to put the battery underneath the bottom plate and with the power distribution board in the middle and the FC on top there is no where to put the battery.

I tried putting the Power distribution board above the FC ... that made it worse.
I put the Power distribution board below the bottom plate and the FC as far up as the servo connectors would allow ... it was better down to 10 degrees deviation at full throttle but possibly still a bit too much ?

I see a number of options ...
1/ Try a different style of power distribution board. - I currently use this
but would thisbe better ?
or would making up a simple harness be an even better option ?  And if so anyone with some EE background have any tips on wire placement to avoid induced magnetic fields ?
2/ Get a set of v2 plates.
3/ Put the power distribution board and FC on top of the top plate and the battery in the middle.
4/ Cut my losses and get a different frame design all together.
5/ Replace all the servo headers with 90 degree ones and hope that gives me enough room.

I really dislike 3/ ... very messy looking and given how I fly (or rather crash) I think that is just going to end in tears.
I don';t see 4/ as being a real option ... most frames seem to be even thinner in the middle and while I';ve spotted my next frame :) it is expensive and would necessitate new motors and is definitely for after I';ve learned to fly properly :)

What do the experienced builders do ?
