Flight Simulators

Can anyone recommend a flight simulator for quadcopters.

Thanks

The one that has most quadcopters in it, with training exercises and FPV mode is AeroSim RC (Not Aerosim - that';s for full size aircraft  )

You use your own transmitter as the controller via a usb dongle which also acts as the software licence but you can try before buying with a download that gives you two minute flights

The developer is Spanish but seems quite approachable and speaks good English.

Can be bought from UK stockists - distributors on the website http://www.aerosimrc.com/j/

The downside, for me, is that there is only a Windoze version so I have had to dual boot my Linux PC  :cry as it doesn';t seem to run well in WINE.

I reckon it is the best available for multi rotors  ~~  other simulators are available ...  :hmm:

I use phoenix and there you can practice fpv as well in cockpit view!
Graphics are better than aerosim rc.
Only one  multirotor is available for practice but you can scale it and tweak it to suit your real one.
I am quite happy with it.
Cheers

I use phoenix sim too. I have a couple of multis on mine & on one of them it can be flown as x or +
Its got fpv view as well if needed.

Ive had it since my rc helicopter days and find its pretty much the best sim Ive used in all that time (Ive tried a few over the years).

I use CRRCSIM. It';s available for Linux and others but it';s free source code so I managed to hoist
it onto my Unix system without too much trouble.
Like the others it uses your TX via some connection -- I';m using the trainer port connected to the
mic input and that seems to work fine -- to control the model. Seems to work fine on fast-enough
machine. (I initially tried some old junkers from a dumpster at the local uni and they were <2 GHz and
too slow; also no GPU for the vid).
Beside a quad you get lots of gliders, powered model aircraft and at least one impossible-to-fly heli.
I';ve bought one of those $hk4 CD';s with the connecting cables and 3 flight sims, but never needed to even look at them.
People on HobbyK that did buy such a package and then looked at CRCCSIM said there was no comparison; the program blew those on the CD away.
The "qc01" is easier to fly than my old 450 with KK v1. Just 30% throttle and you can bump and grind on ground effect all day. :)
The prog has only 2 pre-built locations for flying: Davis Field and Cape Cod.
It sims wind conditions and various other real-life things but it';s mainly being able to tune up my TX mixes with it I like.
If you try higher or lower expo';s in the sim it gives a good feel for how the real aircraft will feel.
Finally, Canberra UAV use CRCCSIM for in-the-loop simulations (the prog can take inputs from nav h/w as well as the TX box).
I hacked in some alt lock code I was working on, but others have added all kinds of air nav stuff.
Not easy for non-programmers (C/C++) I guess.

pete-c

Thanks Kym I will give it a try.

Regards

Gents,

I too have Phoenix on my laptop which is under repair. For those that have Phoenix and are happy with how their quad performs, would it be possible for you to post your tweaks?

Cheers.

I have E-Mailed Phoenix asking about their intentions on adding additional Quads / Mutlis...here is their response...

Hi Martin

Thank you for your email.

We will be releasing more quadcopters and other multi-rotor models in the near future, but they may not be the products you mention in your email.

Best Regards

If you';ve got an Android phone then Indoor Heli Sim is an ok freebie.

One of the best free android rc flight simulators I have found is "Leo';s rc simulator" that can be found on google play/marketplace.

There is no multi in it though but Ive spent many a happy hour messing with the heli and planes.

Not tried the indoor heli sim as yet as my current temp phone is processor challenged . Ive just ordered a new dual core that should be here this week

If you';re into gliders Picasim is an ace freebie, thoroughly enjoy playing on it!

FMS,  the freebie, tho'; it appears only good up to XP is still around and a quad seems to be available if Googled.  I picked it out one day but cannot remember where.  Only tried it keyboard control as I could not find the correct cable I have  for the Futaba Tranny.  Worked ok tho..in the usual keyboard ops fashion.  Might be worth a try....it';s free.
Let's be careful out there.
SAFETY is.. NO accident.

pete-c

Thanks for all your replies. I have decided to go for the Phoenix.

When you use phoenix for the Gaui Quad, do you use ACRO mode like in would on a real quad?

What would be some nice, gentle setting?....I';m more used to setting up Helis

I just started flying a quad (IFLY-4 ) when I was at the shop I asked about sims to get a handle on it, I was advised to by a little Ubsan to help get my hand in and I must say it was great advice. I';m getting better all the time .

Maybe your not a beginner and just want something else to play with, if that is the case please ignore my butting in :)
