Not sure anyone is interested but I figured out a way I can disconnect the second camera (Runcam 3) lead from the Vifly switcher and remove it by bodging up a servo type connector. All I need now is female servo plug to micro usb  There might have been a better way but that`s what I had in my box of bits. Gosh those wires are small  :blink

I'm watching this with interest.  how are you planning to control the switcher?

trebor

Sorry I don't get many notifications. Have a look here

Advise needed  :hmm: Does anyone know how much power those ribbon cables pass. I am thinking about the 5v supply to my cameras through the Vifly switcher. Looks like both cameras could be powered up so I am thinking a separate supply from PDB plus the Runcams can take more voltage 5-36v.

I presume they use several tracks on the ribbon in parallel for each of 10V +ve, 5V +ve & -ve, so they're probably good for the 2A BEC capacity for each.

but given the option, I'd probably take a direct feed off the PDB for the camera(s) & VTx, obviously taking the video thru the FC for OSD:

First can the 5v regulator supply enough current for all you have connected to it? If you are concerned at the current capacity of the ribbon cable then you could use the 5v pads on the 4in1 esc? It also looks like the 4in1 has a 10v supply. Can your cameras run off that, thus reducing the 5v current requirements, you might need 5v for the switcher.
Watch the ribbon cable 0v/gnd line as all current will be using that. So if you use the ribbon the total current from everything connected to the fc will be using same ribbon 0v conductor!!!!!
I would connect as little to be powered off the fc as possible just use the 4in1 voltage and gnd pads if possible. Note you might need to use 0v for camera, switcher and vtx ll from FC!!!!!!!! if you get interference
I try :-)

trebor

Well what to do  :hmm: Just had a look at the Runcam 3 which has its own battery so weather I can connect the signal wires to the Vifly switcher then to the FC ? Maybe 10v supply would be best, maybe I could take the battery out of the Runcam 3 and power it off the lipo who knows its too much for my small brain  :wack0

It recommends using a 5v 1amp to charge the internal battery though on its own.

trebor

Did another hour on it, vifly tucked under the FC.

IMG-3174" border="0

Not too bad for connecting the second camera when needed.

Spaghetti  :o This is going to take me another year at this rate.

Looking good. Might be worth adding a low ESR capacitor across power wires at dist board?
I try :-)

Now for the bit I hate doing, updating the TX and receiver  :banghead: Haven't done it for a while ..... a long while

trebor

Getting closer ;) Updated both the Taranis and X10 with new version Opentx, then the R9M module with Flex firmware and the R9mm rx with F/Port. So far so good :D  I just have to learn how to use them now :blink. It was a major break through as the X10 is over a year old and I have never used it due to a slight cockup of the first install of Opentx.  :embarrassed:

I can start putting thing together now, shame the gps sticks out, will keep an eye out for another holder

IMG-3164" border="0

where did you get your GPS mount?  I'm after something similar, so if there's someone with a 3D printer I could give some money to to print one ...

trebor

Have a look on thingiverse, later on I'll put a link on here for mine if you need it. There is a nice chap on the 3D print forum did mine.

I have always had difficulty setting up the leds. I found that looking at the cli dump for the led bits helped.
I try :-)

I like the zylon effect you can get the LED's to do.

Did some more, programmed the X10 tx as I have never used it before and channel 1 would not work unless switch SA was on  :o Why I don't know as I have never programmed it  :hmm: For the life of me I couldn't sort it till now when I looked in special functions. There it was overriding channel 1 and not 3  Who did that I didn't this thing is haunted  :-/

So not long now to the smoke test  ~~  Its taken me nearly 2 years to get this far.
Maybe a year but it feels like 2.

ched

Weird. OpenTX is amazingly powerful and thus complex.
I am waiting for a mobula6 to arrive (ordered 26th Dec!!!!) so I was playing with throttle scaling via a potentiometer. Painless360 has some great tutorials on OpenTX.
I managed to get throttle scaling working to limit ch3 to between 50% and 100% of normal power just be varying the rotary control. Not sure throttle scaling is way to go might look at throttle limiting via rotary control.

Weird that your TX had an override. It wasn't some sort of model wizard creating the override was it?

If you have a multimeter you can do a pre smoke stopper test. Just test continuity between XT60 socket pins. Then check +ve to frame, motors etc... That way you are not passing any voltage through the system, well apart from about 1.5v from multimeter but with such low current you are safe.
Still do the smoke stopper test as that will limit the current and hopefully prevent anything the multimeter missed!!

Good Luck. Don't forget the maiden flight footage.
I try :-)

trebor

I just updated it and didn't have any models programmed in. The sounds were on as well for power on , off and hold, I tell you its alive  :wack0  I never use Companion for programming, the Taranis is never a problem just this Horus.

For my other quads I stick Betaflight expo on till I get used to it then dial it off

badger1

are you intending to put some legs on it since you've got the second camera hanging off the bottom?

trebor

I want to put arm end bumpers on with raised legs that can detach when second camera is on. That will happen when I get some Motors and Esc`s for the 7" arms. I started a 3D printer build off about a year ago, I should pull my finger out and finish it then I could print my own but that can turn into another hobby with its own problems.

trebor

So far it passed the smoke test  :D but it will not communicate with the FC anymore. Been through the Zadig tool even tried the Impulse rc fixer, still no joy. I initially flashed Inav ok so I must have done something. I know this has happened before and I have tried loads of times with the Zadig tool then all of a sudden for no reason it started working ok  :banghead:
My usb cable is good  ~~  So this thing will go in the box till next year or I take the FC off and start over again  :wack0  Ps I sometimes hate this hobby.

IMG-3203" border="0

PS, That tooth pick is for the teeny tiny bind button then for stabbing the FC

ched

Have you any other computer you could try? Maybe an Android phone with SpeedyBee and an OTG cable?
The Impulse drivers might help https://impulserc.blob.core.windows.net/utilities/ImpulseRC_Driver_Fixer.exe

You don't need to press the boot button, you can use the cli, if you can get BF connected!
The cli commands are bl or dfu depending on BF version.

Maybe manually uninstall drivers using device manager?
I try :-)

trebor

Cheers for the advise, I ended up re flashing Inav again. That cured that problem but now my receiver will not hold bind. I wired up the receiver only using three wires which should be possible and updated the Tx and receiver. I will end up going through these again  Been too busy have a look this week  :cry

badger1

is the LED on the Rx indicating that it's losing bind?  or are you not seeing your Tx inputs in BF?

if you're using FPort - which it sounds like you are - I had to add these two lines in CLI to get it working (you're using an F722-STD too I think?):

set serialrx_inverted = ON
set serialrx_halfduplex = ON

I'm using v191128 on my R-XSR for FPort (v191112 for SBus)

trebor

Cheers I will give it a go when I can summon up some enthusiasm  ~~

I am back, I gave this quad a poke with a stick this morning and got my Leds working but still cannot get the R9mm rx to hold bind. I thought F7 flight controllers worked ok with inverted signals and it was just F4 fc`s you had to worry about ?

When you say 'hold bind' do you mean the r9mm binding to the tx? If so then that has nothing to do with the FC. If it's r9mm that you are having issues with I think CurryKittten on youtube did some vids on it as he had issues early on. I seem to remember  there were issues over r9mm firmware and the compatibility with the module etc.....

If it's rx signals to the FC then I thought, with right fw, it had non inverted sPort which just requires a tx uart?
I try :-)
