  • steveo9007: Cheers Atom was just a thought for now as I plan on keeping it well in range until I get comfortable with controls and flying
    December 05, 2018, 21:01:25
  • atomiclama: steveo You can just plug a GPS puck into the FC and get the OSB to display the coords, record the VTX and when things go tits up you have the last known posistion. Whislt not accurate it is a good starting point. Or get the coords sent back by telemetry to you TX which will be more accurate as long as power is maintained to the quad and it is range with the TX. Just some thoughts.
    December 04, 2018, 12:27:26
  • steveo9007: Is there a post on here about the 433mhz telem tx ??
    December 04, 2018, 07:56:49
  • steveo9007: ok thanks shaw
    December 03, 2018, 20:31:44
  • shawdreamer: meanwhile the 433mhz telem option I mentioned gives you live fixes in realtime and not "delayed texts"..... plus it doesnt cost you credit everytime you request a gps fix (btw the tags sim card also needs to have credit on it )
    December 02, 2018, 20:47:10
  • shawdreamer: and yes that does actually work..... I tried it for a laugh a couple of years ago ::)
    December 02, 2018, 20:45:09
  • shawdreamer: the tags do as you say use satellites to get positional fixes but they dont immediately report those fixes to an App, each tag requires a Sim card (same as your phone) which is used to "text" you the tags position..... in other words you could get the exact same effect by strapping a old smartphone to your frame with the google "where is my device" app installed
    December 02, 2018, 20:44:13
  • steveo9007: doesnt the tag communicate with the satellites and not via a data system, isn't it the user who owns the tag go via data to the app that can locate the tag ???
    December 02, 2018, 18:18:11
  • shawdreamer: plus, alot of the lower end trackers struggle with GPRS and often rely heavily on GSM data instead which is just not worth a sh1te when it comes to pinpointing a downed frame
    December 02, 2018, 16:23:30
  • shawdreamer: most readily available gps trackers are not really suitable for anything smaller than a 400 sized frame as the units themselves are often too bulky for anything smaller and larger frames often already have their own gps setups that can simply be outfitted with a 433mhz telem tx that would report live and accurate info direct to a ground station so there'd be no point in a sms type tracker
    December 02, 2018, 16:22:07

In France near Marseille, on a work trip and brought the XuGong

Had a couple of epic evenings flying - better than stuck in the hotel!

I didn’t fly today, but I’m going to fly this week! I’ve got to drive to Oxford on Tuesday and I’m going to be passing by Tring Park. Looks a good spot from what I’ve seen of other people’s videos so if anyone is in the area and fancies a quick fly let me know. I won’t be around for too long and it’ll be on Tuesday afternoon.

Mentioned to the guys mate, not sure if people are available in the afternoon on week days, also Tring has a walk in which will eat into your flying time, boars hill may be a better option

thinks.... now, can I wrangle a trip up to BH?  :hmm:
I suppose I ought to go up there to check out the livestock situation if it's potentially back on the cards for BFU #6. Was full of sheep earlier.

Ok cool. I’ll keep an eye on the weather and if it’s looking too windy I’ll give it a miss but if you’re there I can swing by anyway.

Understatement of the year so far.  I drove over to Worcester to pick up an a/c  and got conker bombed.
The trees overhanging the road were shedding them all over the place

Nice to get a bit of height  before takeoff, gives you a bit of time to regain control if things get a bit squirrel'y.

I thought about flying today......... But then I noticed that the tops of 30' tall trees were getting whipped about by around 5 or 6 foot and decided that the conditions might be slightly less than optimal. :)
I need a pay rise........ Though I'd settle for a reduction in the amount of hours I need to work to get the same money.

Beware of upsetting the bunnies at the Quoits, two people have  disappeared there, all that was found was their smoking footwear. :o

After a stressful afternoon and evening getting 11-15 year olds focussed on running a demo of the school RC club for next year's potential intake, and then a dismally foggy morning, and baby sitting some contractors, the sun finally came out, so off to the field.

Had a couple of long flights with the 250 just cruising smoothly around, following a groove on the course as closely as possible no stunts/flips so not worth the video play time (which I record anyway in case of  ?  ?       )

And a bit of Bixler wrestling...........  ;)

Funny how the brain says you didn't have that GREAT a time today, when in reality you are staring at 12 2200mAh 4S to re-charge.   :whistling:

Maybe as it ended oddly, with a 200 (and quite a heavy 200!) blown away by a gust into the greenery.

It was the only flight I did LOS as I had others 300 metres away 90 degrees disposed from where I was flying trying to recover a friends tree'd plane (DX8, Spektrum "Fail-Safe", again) and so had no spotter for safe FPV.

Massive gust and I lost orientation, had one chance of a try and got it wrong, so put it as low as I could get in the boundary trees and brambles. Walked over, buzzer located it easily, it was on a farm path between the trees 2 metres into some scrubby sparse knee high brambles sitting on the ground right way up and totally unmarked. Flew it back in front of me.  Wish all recoveries were that easy!

The plane?  It took them an hour or more, but they did get it back.
