I didn't.  Bottled it and flipped my goggles up for the landing. :)  much safer / cheaper that way until I get a bit more experience.

While Monday mornings I always fly indoor at a sports hall, the site has extensive football/rugby pitches which we are allowed to use if they are not working on them after the weekend.

While today started with a bit of the brass monkeys about it and a deep frost, the absence of wind and a cloudless sky soon made for great FPV conditions and for micro/lightweight planes.

The quad I flew the most was the 150 that the micro combo aerial had been suspect on. Now with a new longer co-ax soldered well in both ends (unlike previously!) and also lifting the RHCP head clearer of the frame, etc, the picture was completely clear and glitch free for the length of a rugby pitch and half as much again, the limit of the space I could access.  Oooooh, NICE.............

Great  so your getting used to flying over the wet stuff nowadays ? it's very sketchy to start with but I have resigned to the fact that if my Phantom drowns or flys away, it would be down to a machine fault not operator error, I'm quite maticulous on set up, calibrate compass every flight and make sure home point is recorded. I initiate RTH every flight after takeoff just to make sure it does actually come back ! Might be a bit extreme but not had any issues,,, touch wood

Oh my, but yes I flew today. Fantastic fun!
I was asked to come in and do a talk at Harwell UTC for the 6th form students that are doing a drone-based project this year.

They BENT MY ARM and INSISTED that I give a demonstration on their playing field... well, how could I refuse! 

I'll be coming back in December to look at their drone test courses that they've designed and I've also invited a "well known, very famous pilot "to come along and help with the judging and do some flying demos - super impressed that he's agreed to come and help. Will TRY not to be a total fan-boy on the day.... maybe get a signed prop?

Weather looked bloody awful out there, But it wasn't actually raining so I decided to maden something I put together from used bits I had kicking about......



It's one of the cheapo Diatone "FPV250" frames, LD Power 1900kv 2206 motors, A clone F3, Racerstar 4 in 1 ESC, Plus some random VTX and camera I found in the used parts draw........... And it flies surprisingly well for what it is!!!

I buzzed a couple of packs through it in the garden before the rain started. It was pretty docile at mid throttle, But had quite an acceptable amount of punch when I gave it the beans.

I'm going to have to have a prod through the settings in Cleanflight because this thing feels like it's got serious bendy throttle curve that's making it really easy to keep at a steady height (Something I usually have trouble with). In the garden there's lots of low hanging trees with about a meter of gap between the lower branches and the ground. Usually it feels risky as frig zipping under them, But this quads keeping such a predictable altitude that I was bombing around quicker and quicker until the drizzle finally stopped play.

Did I need YET another quad?  Erm....... No. Not really.
But am I glad I chucked this thing together? HELL YEAH !!! :)

Yep got mine from Maplin after seeing it on T3's website on Friday night. Been wanting a camera bird but small enough to keep with me *cough* under car seat.

Dull, dreary day here, but I did manage to maiden my F16 Falcon EDF. I was a trifle concerned that the taileron control would be out of trim badly as with all 3D curves on all parts aligning it was a nightmare.

While I intend to hand launch, I did the maiden alone and ROG via its quick fitted undercart (with larger wheels fitted due the wet grass).

All it needed was five clicks of up elevator (very fine pitch on Horus) to fly straight and level.

It's not ballistic (as they claim!) but has decent grunt and climbs out well, has a surprisingly good glide, and was very easy to land even crosswind.

As poor light for FPV, I flew the 200 LOS for a while.  This has EMax 2204 motors, and puzzles me as it trips the balance port connected screamer alarm set to 3.3v intermittently while cruising around even with a freshly charged pack, yet does not false fire off when the throttle is wide open, even when snapped open and held so. It does eventually alarm correctly when the voltage drops, its just these seemingly "false" alarms bleeps that confuse as to how the heck they occur!

No wind today and dull misty. At one point the "lose sight" altitude LOS upwards was only 100' or so, though clear below.

Despite having a closed private site we are getting increasing trouble from dog walkers exercising their "right to roam". There's a new idiot with five scotties appearing every day that insists on standing playing with his phone for ages right on the approach and take off paths.

He got a shock today when a quad crept up on him and fired off its "lost model" screamer...........not sure who's it was though..........  :evil :evil

Superb D.B.  I dream of shots like that . I would adjust the colour a bit though.
