  • Reman: Got stuck in traffic yesterday. After an hour I started using my phone (And an OTG cable) to look through the media files on a keyring of my old USB sticks. Found one that had the entire run of "Firefly" on it. I got through 3 episodes before the traffic started moving again....... God, That really was an amazing show.

  • hoverfly: I coated a couple of Slipstreams  a few years ago  It stiffened up the wing nicely .On the down side although it prevented dings when i had an high speed"arrival" it left the resin cracked. and the glass lifted slightly.  Well stuck laminate stiffens the wing and is flexible..

HGLRC XJB F438 F4 AIO FC | Help with 1st build
« on: August 31, 2018, 20:50:05 »
I've built a quadcopter for the first time. I have a problem; it disconnects as soon as I connect the battery when its connected to betaflight. I've failed to get it to arm.

any suggestions?

We might need a bit more info to help. What flight controller, receiver etc.
Images are good.
One think make sure props are off.
Have you bound the rx to your tx?

I'm a newbie when it comes to quadcopters, so if i say anything stupid, its because i've not been told yet...

Anyways, I decided to build a DIY Storm Sirio X-2, I have a couple of issues, for the life of me i CANT get it to arm and I have another random issue; when connected to Betafligh, if i connect the battery it closes the port so I'm unable to check/test the receiver and transmitter, nor can i check the motors. Please help.

My setup: HGLRC XJB F438 F4 AIO FC + BS38A 4-in-1 BLHeli_S Dshot Micro stack
RadioLink Reciever + RadioLink Transmitter (AT9S).
KingKong 1105 4000kv Micro Brushless Motor
RunCam Micro Swift FPV CCD Camera
FXT FX808T 5.8Ghz Micro VTX (200mw w/ Raceband)

I have flashed both the FC OMNIBUS 3.5.0 (using Betaflight) and RadioLink transmitterv1.7.5(AT12S) (using the RadioLink software).

Receiver (RX) and Transmitter (TX) have a bind. I also get a video feed from the VTX and Runcam.

Cheers for the photos and extra info.

Just had a quick search for the usb/battery issue and it seems like others have had the same issue. It appears that sometimes the connector that takes the 5v from the esc board to the FC board isn't great. So the FC doesn't get enough power when the USB isn't connected.
So first off see if there is 5v getting to the receiver when just on battery power. If that isn't working then you need to very carefully adjust the pins that connect the 2 boards together.

Once you can get the FC to stay powered when the usb and battery are connected you can set up the receiver and then it should be able to arm. Remember props off while testing.

Let us know if that helps?

Thanks, I've checked the receiver, VTX, buzzer/LED and they're all showing ~5V on an altimeter, whilst off the USB and on the battery. They show zero voltage when on USB. Still the same issue

OK Maybe quickest way is to add HGLRC XJB F438 F4 AIO FC to the title of the thread as there are people here who have the same FC and may be able to help better.

Hmm not clear what your issue is.
The usb only powers the flight controller, it will not power other stuff on the 5v line, I wouldn’t expect the vtx, buzzer, led and rx to have voltage when the usb is plugged in. They need the lipo plugged in (there is a diode I believe between the 5v bar and the on board chips/usb port, this is common to protect the pc.

Was there something else?

The problem: connecting the battery kills the USB connection (serial port), and immediately disconnects from betaflight and BHeli configurator.

Aha ok that shouldn’t happen.
Possibly the F.C. is busted, possibly a component, more likely so errant solder,  other possibility is I vaguely recall something about usb3 having issues, are you using usb3? If so can you try 1 or 2?

I've tried various USB cables, USB 2.0 USB 3.0, I've even de-soldered re-soldered everything just to be on the safe side.

Same issue, I don't know if helps, but I've also made a video of the beeping disco that takes-place when the battery is connected but the Quadcopter is off the USB.

Maybe someone is able to decipher.....? I know i cant.

It’s very like the alert for wrong hex, there are a lot of variants for the omnibus board, check you are using the right one would be my first step

I think Cheredanine is talking about the hex file that is the Firmware that you load on the Flight Controller (FC) with BetaFlight.

When you flash the newest version of BetaFlight FW onto the Flight Controller it must be the correct hex for the exact FC you have.

Is the Firmware that is on the FC the original one that came with the FC?

If not you will need to get the FC into dfu mode (usually press the button and power the FC up (USB power is fine)). Then you can flash the correct version of the Firmware onto the FC. You need the version that matches the FC board including the correct version.

Hope that helps?

That does help, I'll roll it back and let you know how I get on. Based on what you've just said, I'm assuming the latest firmware isn't always the greatest as it might not be 100% compatible?

I would run 3.3, there have been issues with later versions, it gets a bit complicated. But actually it is the target I was questioning
