looking to design and scratch build a wing but Ive hit a stumbling block....material.

obviously anyone in the know advised using the same thing for a scratch build project, that being "foamboard"

but..... I have absolutely no idea were to start with sourcing some decent quality board that'll work well for a wing build.

anyone got some solid suggestions or better yet their own preferred supplier?

I recently bought the following for my scratch build, turned up very quickly well packaged and looks decent enough stuff.

Which is the same company as

is that paper backed?

I was thinking of aiming for a relative slow fly high lift wing for my initial build, should give me a better chance of re-adjusting to fixed wing flying (I literally havnt touched a fixed in a decade :huh) so it'll probably need to be more rigid than impact resistant this time round.

Not paper backed but seams pretty tough, though I have nothing to compare it against.

Was planning on giving it a packing tape covering to toughen it up a bit.

you could use vinyl laminate sheet instead of taping, I did it a couple of times back in the day but you could only really get it from stationary stores etc at the time and even small sheets and rolls were a bit pricey and often too thick,  nowadays you can get decent stuff in 80cm wide 3m roll from somewhere like Wilkinsons (thin but tough and stretches well with just a little bit of heat from a hairdryer), think I might pick up a fresh roll myself and give that foam a go. ~~

Thought about laminating, but for a first build I think tape will be easier. It's going to end up battered in minutes anyway  ::)

Im hoping that If I keep mine a relatively slow tame build it'll stick around long enough for me to re-energize my fixed wing wings  so laminating might actually be a good idea for me. :hmm:

Depron does not like heat much, be careful attempting lamination. (It also does not like lots of differing glues or the propellent in aerosols)

I used to buy EPP sheet cut to specified thickness from Flyingwings, don't know if they still sell that way.

Robotbirds sells some EPP sheet.

the stuff I used an age ago was the same with heat, I quickly learnt to heat the laminate away from the board after several rounds of "were the feck did that hole come from?"

the newer laminate like the stuff I mentioned from wilko's is quite thin (though still pretty tough) and softens and stretches quite easily even with only a little heat from a hair dryer (as appose to having to use a heat gun with the old stuff) so it should be workable.

Yeah hot glue sort of melts into the sheet but has given a good bond to my carbon.
Will will see if the epoxy on motor mounts hold or dissolve the Depron.

Thanks for the heads up though.  ~~

Epoxy glue is fine, as is UHU POR.

Evo-Stick is fun if you want to liquify the lot.....................  ;)
