 ::) ::)

I know a lot of peeps don't like RC releases or  bleeding edge nightly builds.

But there are some nice new feature and great defaults, so come on give it ago.

Is it worth waiting for the official release or no reason not to switch over now ?

You wait for release candidates? Luddite. In fact you are still running betaflight? Put some butter on your quad.

Mitchell, to summarise.
Betaflight now opperates like cleanflight did when we all thought it was too slow and moved to betaflight in the first place, there is a development plan. It says the next release will contain this : xxxxxxx
(A list of stuff)

There are regular (daily) development releases, these are compiled on Jenkins and are basically just what the developers have added to the code that day. It has not been tested, it may not work, it may cause all sorts of problems, including stuff like burning out components, you are entirely at the mercy of how good the devs are. (Dev releases are done so they can be tested)

When all the stuff intended for that release has either been written or moved to a later release, and the dev build has been tested and the devs are confident, they put out a release candidate, (a devopment version of ‘we think this is right, try it and let us know”

Some intrepid pilots instal it, and fly it and report back. The devs look at the reports, try and find the problem and fix it, then the next release candidate is put out.

This is repeated until the current release candidate is considered sufficiently stable to be a full release, (usually somewhere between 3-5 iterations for BF)

By adopting a release candidate you are accepting your quad may burst into flames but it is very unlikely, in order to provide the devs feedback. Feedback like “that was good/rubbish” is pointless, they need BB logs, videos, specific information

The latest release, as far as I can tell, contains nothing much of any interest apart from new filters which have been in dev builds for a while

My advice is try butterflight

Well compared with dev/nightly builds there is nothing new.

But compared with the previous release there is a lot new / different for flight characteristics.

I'd say if you are still running an old version that you have not changed much away from default then you will notice a huge improvement.

Read the second link in the first post.

Okay thanks for that info, my quads are flying nice at the moment so not in a rush to try anything experimental just yet.

Have thought about Butter, but have had in my head that the next BF has some interesting new features that would make it better ?

FAR TOO fearful to go installing dev releases or even release CANDIDATES.
In fact aftet the suggestion that a (not so, now) recent update to BF would spontaneously arm has put me off updating.  :sweating:

"if it aint broke... don't fix it".... (or just break it yourself)

No amount of butter is gonna make a difference for me until I have the skills to do it any justice.

I think too many people are pinning their hopes on firmware and hardware to improve their game. I'm sure some of the top pilots could fly very nicely on multiwii - in fact, I'm gonna issue a FORMAL CHALLENGE on that one!
Despite all the faff about using a slightly lighter screw here and there, Drew said recently that he could hardly tell the difference between carrying an old and new GoPro despite the bif weight difference.

ah... sorry, I've gone off on a rant. Dangers of reading the forum in my coffee break.  :slap:

Too much time and effort invested in BF, I know BuF is a fork but I can't bring myself to do it. Also lost interest in any other variant after the RF fiasco and some of the comments from the BuF devs.

So I'm staying put   ~~

I do like the second link where it suggests settings depending on how you fly and if you fly with bent props etc....

Oh don't get Lamaule started on Drew   :frantic: :banghead:

Sadly I do think that weight plays a part, the heavier it is the more amps it consumes to do what you want it to do. The only positive of weight on a quad is the momentum it supplies.

As for Butterflight, I'm still holding back a little bit. Once I have some disposable spare time I might start playing with it, but currently I want to stay in the air for the weekends.

Utterly agree, well actually more weight means more load on motors for same speed, which in turn means more amps but yeah agree completely

Agreed, a good pilot can make anything fly well.

But for us mere mortals why not take any advantages that are there especially if they are free.

Thing is if your quad handles better from recent BF or BuF then you will find it easier to fly and so you will be more confident and fly better.

im still running 3.2.5 on my matek f405. i tried 3.3 but it didnt fly the same so i went back, if i had a nice simple way to keep the quad behaving the same in the air then i would consider moving. but till someone comes up with a conversion matrix to convert old settings to the new latest things then i cant be bothered to change...

its the old saying... if it aint broke dont fix it...
