Hello I am new here but not to flying.i am looking to buy an fpv drone.its only needed for a few quick missions.definitely brushless and with a radio in mode 2 for UK flyers.I am used to using a dx6i so the controls need to have the correct layout

what size drone would you like?
what is your budget?
do you have a transmitter and fpv monitor/goggles already?

do you want something for arco or just float about in the sky?
indoors or outdoor use?

atomiclama

Wasdale X, Ow that hurt

Cheredanine

Sounds like you have specific flights in mind or rather a specific job, I am sure someone with an fpv drone would be happy to help you out, buying one for 2 flights seems perverse

The type of flight is important, it effects the type of quad

Colour is important cos red ones go faster

dayshaddow

I am looking for a ready to fly job as I do not have any if my rc gear or tool currently.I have plans to get to flying helis later this year

It's for outdoors but I will pick calm weather
Budget definitely nothing close to a phantom,It's not going to get much use so I won't be spending crazy amounts
Colour well not sky blue or green for overious reasions

Ok so
Typical rtf or bind and fly at the bottom end of the price bracket are eachine wizard or emax nighthawk.

If yiu want micro there are quite a lot of brushed tinywhoop variants and brushless are generally appearing. On that scale though range isn’t brilliant, and you are more suceotabke to weather

Do be careful if these "missions" involve you getting paid or even "paid" in any way of involve flying over / near any events, people or structures or taking images.

Bet you won't stick to a coupl of missions though - get in the air and you'll be HOOKED!!!   :wack0

eachine wizard x220 with a flysky transmitter combo is about £150
you can do line of sight flying and then pick up a fpv monitor or goggles
it has purple props but these can easily be swapped out for some dalprop cyclones 5046C for a couple quid (which are available in red too)

Thanks for the warm welcome. I think once I have done what I need I, the need to fly again will lead me replacing my trex450,tr250 and my Msrx.been two years i have flown anything..kinda shocking thinking about it 😲

Looks like a perfect suggestion to me 😎 it's just occurred to me  I have been flying  since Sept 08 and have a few thousand hours I guess BUT...no fpv 🤔
I made night vision goggles a month ago and it should be very easy to convert the camera on this drone over at a later date for some goofing around YouTube videos

Ok so I am planning to have the wizard within a month, ideally sooner.ok so my experience of ready to fly things have always needed a few adjustments or checks.what should I check or do before I get to my old favourite flying place.i will have a play in the house long before it's let lose outside 👍

On wizard?
1. Check all screws are tight and threadlocked as appropriate
2. Check failsafe
Beyond that all the standard stuff, plug it in to betaflight, check config etc

Andy7

3. Don't be too close to it when you first spin up. Props on wrong and other gremlins can send it into your face!

nooo dont fly a 200mm+ size drone in the house, unless you live in a mansion, these drones move pretty quick and the props will damage anything they touch
take it to the garden and practice hoovering about a foot or two off the ground, if in doubt kill the throttle, the quad falling from a foot off the ground will not damage it

I've flown (hovered)  a 450 heli in my living room before.  I like to take a risk every now and again  :evil

I have hovered my trex 450 in the kitchen and flown a far more agile trex 250 around my house.drones definitely not a problem.it was fun and scary.FYI the carbon fibre blades are each 325 ml x 2 plus blade grips so a tr450 has a disk of around 2ft across

We should let someone else learn to hover 👍.my learning to hover was completed  back in September 2008 also in any direction.can you hover nose in. It's when the heli or drone is facing you and you need to disable all stabilizing too as its cheating  👍
I have  belt cp without a giro and it was really really fun and no crash 😎

Bad Raven

Having flown a 700 Heli in a smallish sport hall, I would point out that there are consequences that bravado/stupidity won't stop.

In my case it was the unusually high air circulation, which cleaned ALL the trunking, lighting fittings, ducting, etc.

A thick grey snow instantly ensued that cut visibility in half.

I tried the "I won't charge you for the high level clean you clearly have not carried out for years" but they didn't understand till they looked!!  ;)

(I'd add this was done with the hall empty, all other entries sealed, and me standing in the only doorway ready to duck and kick the door release.)

Joking aside, flying any heli above 250 or equiv large quad indoors is potentially a VERY risky operation. I had a 450 shed a blade (blade failure, not impact caused) in the garden while it was 5-6 metres away.  Not only was I unable to get away in time, but I still have the scar on my leg ten years on.

I grabbed a badly glitching 130 heli during last year to avoid it hitting someone in the face. I have three remaining scars from that and was very lucky it didn't open an artery.  And that was only a 130.

If that had hit the guy's face....................

Not one to be a H&S freak, but be careful out there, the inertia of a spinning blade is higher than you might think!

dayshaddow

I have a scar on my stomach from a bit of a blade that exploded on impact.it weighed only 13 g and travelled around 10 ft 🤤

mo_miah

so body amour is recommended when flying lol

i think CAA rules state you should fly 50m away from people and be 30m away during take off

DAL props are meant to be pretty indestructible

would be interesting to see at what forces blades break off at, i work at a material test lab, so if anyone wants to donate some old props i'd be happy to test them and do a write up

Wyntrblue

pm me your address and i will send over some dals ;)
