It seems that RC Timer are now selling 'SimonK' firmware based speed controllers for multicopters.

I am not sure if the pre-flashed speed controllers will be any better than the ones I've done myself but it could save someone a lot of time and bother.

Thats a very good move on behalf of rctimer its a shame they dont give more details, like if the boot loader is enabled allowing further upgrades with the turnigy linker, and also what version of simomK they are flashed with, this info really should be on the label but its not they have just used a red heat shrink rather than the normal yellow to indicate it is not a standard rctimer esc

Yeah that was my thinking to. Have they bothered to fit an external oscillator for example or are they identical to the old ones only with better firmware? I suspect they will be identical so it may still be better to buy the hobby king ones with the external oscillator and flash them yourself - though a fair bit fiddlier.

I really need to re-flash my speed controllers. I have no idea what version of the SimonK firmware i used so i suspect it was an old one.

I wrote the date / version on mine when I flashed them, I have two versions as some are newer, I'm not looking forward to re-flashing all of mine but I will so I can enable the boot loader, I don't suppose it really matters what version is on them as long as your going to re-flash them all, I have emailed rctimer about the details of the simonk flash they have used and if they have enabled the boot loader  ;)

It will be good if they are adding the boot loader because new users will have the simonk flash and be able to re-flash any updates them selves with out having to have a programming tool or remove the covering  ~~

I emailed them about this but there reply said can you provide a photo  god only knows what they want a photo of  ::) I will try again though and try to make them understand, I think they think Im reporting a problem

I think I would rather go for the HK ones with the external clock as shown in one of the esc posts on here the f-20s and f-30a  ~~
